I have had the privilege of knowing Chris very well, and these past 12 days have filled me with profound sadness and a surreal feeling. Beyond his elite stature, intelligence, and athleticism, Chris was a patriotic, fun, considerate, and welcoming individual. He was the type of person who would drop everything to help someone in need and stand up for what is right, even standing up to bullies for those who needed help. He would always let me know when he was making "the sauce," showcasing his passion for cooking, particularly grilling and Italian cuisine. Chris had a love for the water, having swam in college and enjoyed surfing. When I heard that he dove into the water to assist Nathan, whom I have had the pleasure of meeting a couple of times, it didn't surprise me. While many would say that was part of SEAL protocol, Chris would have done the same for anyone - that's just the kind of person he was. He embodied the essence of a superhero in human form. Furthermore, he was a devoted family man with a loving wife and a beautiful little girl. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. They will forever hold a special place in my heart, and his memory will live on in the stories and memories we shared together.
