Fani Willis investigated by GOP senators over alleged abuse of federal funds
Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson are investigating whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willisโ office misused federal funds.
The two Republican senators highlighted multiple reports accusing Willisโ office of squandering funds, including from the Justice Department Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and other initiatives, on frivolous items such as โswagโ and unrelated travel.
โIn Fiscal Year (FY) 2020, OJJDP awarded Fulton County nearly $500,000 to establish the Fulton County Center of Youth Empowerment and Gang Prevention,โ Grassley (R-Iowa) and Johnson (R-Wis.) wrote in a letter to Willis Wednesday.
โThe Center has yet to open and the โbuilding meant to house it is closed to the public, its gates padlocked.'โ

A judge on Thursday said attorneys could begin delivering closing arguments in former President Donald Trumpโs hush money trial as early as Tuesday, clearing the way for the jury to begin deliberating on Trumpโs fate by the end of the week.
The schedule, if it holds, would mean a verdict on whether Trump falsified business records could also come by the end of next week, but jury deliberations could stretch for days if needed.

The pontiff's 60 Minutes interview will screen on Sunday and could strain his already-bad relations with the Roman Catholic Church in the US.
His interview with Norah O'Donnell was recorded on April 24.
He responded by saying a conservative is someone who 'clings to something and does not want to see beyond that.'
'It is a suicidal attitude,' he says, according to a transcript excerpt from CBS.
'One thing is to take tradition into account, to consider situations from the past, but quite another is to be closed up inside a dogmatic box.'

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, a Fed spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
Powell "plans to deliver commencement remarks to Georgetown Law School on May 19 via prerecorded video," the statement said.
"Chair Powell tested positive for COVID-19 late yesterday and is experiencing symptoms." He is working from home and staying away from others, the statement said, following guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
