Pentagon ran secret anti-vax campaign to undermine China during pandemic

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. military launched a secret campaign to counter what it perceived as China’s growing influence in the Philippines, a nation hit especially hard by the deadly virus.

The clandestine operation has not been previously reported. It aimed to sow doubt about the safety and efficacy of vaccines and other life-saving aid that was being supplied by China, a Reuters investigation found. Through phony internet accounts meant to impersonate Filipinos, the military’s propaganda efforts morphed into an anti-vax campaign. Social media posts decried the quality of face masks, test kits and the first vaccine that would become available in the Philippines – China’s Sinovac inoculation.

Reuters identified at least 300 accounts on X, formerly Twitter, that matched descriptions shared by former U.S. military officials familiar with the Philippines operation. Almost all were created in the summer of 2020 and centered on the slogan #Chinaangvirus – Tagalog for China is the virus.

Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump announced Friday from behind a podium in a Detroit suburb that she and the RNC are working to raise a veritable army of “over 100,000 poll watchers and over 500 lawyers” to “deploy” at election sites across the country in November. 

These volunteers will have three missions: Watch people vote, watch people count votes, and sue anybody who gets in the way.

“I believe if we have a free, fair and transparent election that there’s no question we’ll all be going to bed early on November 5,” she said.

“And we’ll go to bed knowing Donald Trump is our next president.”

Lara Trump’s vision is to have people “in the room” whenever votes are being counted or cast.

Donald Trump’s lawyers on Friday hit back at special counsel Jack Smith in the classified documents case by opposing his request to bar the former president from making any statements that prosecutors say endanger law enforcement involved in the investigation.

In a 20-page filing, defense attorneys argued that Smith "seeks to restrict President Trump’s campaign speech" ahead of the first debate with President Joe Biden later this month.

Smith's team asked U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon in May to modify Trump's conditions of release in the case, citing Trump's false claims about FBI agents being prepared to kill him during the search at Mar-a-Lago for classified documents. Prosecutors said such statements have "endangered law enforcement officers involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case."

Next week, I’m introducing a resolution to rescind the subpoenas issued by the illegitimate January 6th Committee for Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, Dan Scavino, and Peter Navarro and withdraw the recommendations finding them in contempt of Congress.

The Committee was nothing more than a political witch hunt to blame President Trump and his advisors for the events that took place on January 6, 2021, and influence the 2022 mid-term elections and 2024 presidential election.

The Committee was legally deficient in its composition and was more focused on producing made-for-TV hearings than following House rules.

The subpoenas issued were insufficient and should be rescinded, and the contempt of Congress referrals based on those subpoenas should be withdrawn.
