Pharmaceutical company Pfizer is touting its collaboration with the first Trump administration to rapidly produce one of the major Covid-19 vaccines, as the Trump administration has sewn doubt about vaccines and cut funding for research in recent weeks.

“The success of Operation Warp Speed and U.S. development of mRNA vaccines is a profound public health achievement,” Pfizer chairman and CEO Dr. Albert Bourla wrote in an online statement on Wednesday. “Under President Trump's leadership, American innovation led the world, helping prevent economic collapse and saving more than 14 million lives globally.”

“This American leadership also delivered a new platform that may drive significant innovation in cancer research,” Bourla added, referring to the cutting-edge mRNA technology used in the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. “Such an accomplishment would typically be worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, given its significant impact.”

The statement appears to align with the president’s long-running desire for a Nobel Prize and recent trend of leaders, including foreign leaders, calling for the Republican to get the diplomatic honor.

NEW❗️: The United States continues to monitor China's research activity in the Arctic, as the Coast Guard shadowed two Chinese ships near Alaska earlier this week.

The U.S. Coast Guard said on Wednesday that a pair of Chinese research ships—the Zhong Shan Da Xue Ji Di and the Ji Di—were spotted operating in the Arctic Ocean on the U.S. Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) near Alaska between Sunday and Tuesday.

China has declared itself a "near-Arctic state" and a stakeholder in regional affairs, despite being located in East Asia. A fleet of five Chinese research vessels has been deployed simultaneously on Arctic missions since last month, which the U.S. Coast Guard said aligns with a three-year trend of increased Chinese activity in the region.

The ECS refers to the portion of the continental shelf extending beyond 230 miles from Alaska's coastline. For comparison, the U.S. territorial sea and exclusive economic zone (EEZ) extend up to 13.8 miles and 230 miles from the coastline, respectively.

Facing China's growing activity in the Arctic, along with Russia's persistent military presence, the Pentagon has called for a stronger posture and enhanced capabilities. The U.S. military recently conducted two exercises—Northern Edge 2025 and Arctic Edge 2025—in Alaska and the Arctic to ensure readiness to deter and defeat adversaries.

A federal jury has ordered Google to pay $425.7 million for improperly snooping on people’s smartphones during a nearly decade-long period of intrusions.

The verdict reached Wednesday in San Francisco federal court followed a more than two-week trial in a class-action case covering about 98 million smartphones operating in the United States between July 1, 2016, through Sept. 23, 2024. That means the total damages awarded in the five-year-old case works out to about $4 per device.

Google had denied that it was improperly tracking the online activity of people who thought they had shielded themselves with privacy controls. The company maintained its stance even though the eight-person jury concluded Google had been spying in violation of California privacy laws.
