BREAKING🤔: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered hundreds of the U.S. military’s generals and admirals to gather on short notice — and without a stated reason — at a Marine Corps base in Virginia next week, sowing confusion and alarm after the Trump administration’s firing of numerous senior leaders this year.

The highly unusual directive was sent to virtually all of the military’s top commanders worldwide, according to more than a dozen people familiar with the matter. The directive was issued earlier this week, as a government shutdown looms, and months after Hegseth’s team at the Pentagon announced plans to undertake a sweeping consolidation of top military commands.

In a statement Thursday, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell affirmed that Hegseth “will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week,” but he offered no additional details. Parnell, a senior adviser to the defense secretary, voiced no concerns about The Washington Post reporting on the meeting, scheduled for Tuesday in Quantico, Virginia.

JUST IN🔥: The U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday that it had filed lawsuits against California, New York, and four other states for not providing their voter registration lists to the department.

"Every state has a responsibility to ensure that voter registration records are accurate, accessible, and secure — states that don’t fulfill that obligation will see this Department of Justice in court," Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement.

Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania are the other states sued by the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division, according to the statement.

BREAKING‼️: Louisiana and Mississippi are experiencing widespread outages of 911 emergency calling systems after reporting fiber cable damage, according to officials.

The outages are impacting multiple parishes in Louisiana and include the state’s three largest cities, as well as several Mississippi counties and the capital city of Jackson, according to officials.

A severed 911 fiber cable caused outages to have a “regional impact,” according to New Orleans emergency communications officials. Mississippi officials are working with AT&T to determine the scope of the outages after fiber optic lines were damaged, said Scott Simmons, director of external affairs at the state’s department of emergency management.

Outages were also reported in Fulton County, Illinois, where officials are advising residents to call a non-emergency number, the Canton Police Department said. City officials in Canton said the outage has lasted at least an hour, as they caution residents “there may be some waiting” as it’s still unclear when the service will be back up, a spokesperson said.
