Senators demand FBI agents testify about 'highly credible' source who allegedly made up Biden bribery scheme

EXCLUSIVE: Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson are demanding the FBI make Alexander Smirnov’s handling agent and his superiors available for interviews as they investigate what steps the bureau and the Justice Department took to investigate the now-infamous FD-1023 form alleging a criminal bribery scheme involving Joe Biden and Ukraine.

Fox News Digital obtained a letter Grassley, R-Iowa, and Johnson, R-Wis., sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray and Special Counsel David Weiss late Tuesday.

"Since October 13, 2022, Congress has requested from the Justice Department and FBI information and records relating to the FD-1023 to better understand what steps, if any, the Justice Department took to investigate the document," Grassley and Johnson wrote.

President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) are set to hold a joint press conference Friday focussed on election integrity, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Hill, an appearance that comes as one of Trump’s close allies is threatening to oust the Speaker from the top job.

The press conference is scheduled to take place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., the source said. A second source familiar told The Hill that an event Friday is the plan, but the details are still being finalized.

The event comes as Johnson finds himself in hot water on Capitol Hill, with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) — a close Trump ally — threatening to force a vote on removing the Speaker from his leadership position.

A group of House Republicans on Wednesday tanked a procedural vote to begin debate on a bill to reauthorize the nation’s warrantless surveillance powers, leaving the chamber scrambling on how to address the important spy tool before it expires next week.

Nineteen Republicans joined Democrats in voting against a rule for legislation to renew Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), blocking the measure from advancing 193-228.

The move comes after former President Trump on Wednesday urged Republicans to “kill FISA” — throwing a wrench in an already contentious debate.

FBI probed Ashli Babbitt, saw her as terrorist, after her Jan. 6 death

Eight days after a U.S. Capitol Police officer shot and killed Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt during the Jan. 6, 2021, political riots, the FBI opened a criminal investigation into her actions and even considered adding her to the terrorist watch list.

According to FBI documents received by the legal watchdog Judicial Watch and shared with Secrets, the FBI considered investigating Babbitt for four “potential violations of federal law,” including rioting.

After listing those violations, the FBI report turned to the terrorist watch list.
But in acknowledging her death on Jan. 6 as she tried to enter the House Speaker’s Lobby through a broken window on a swinging door, the FBI said, “Babbitt is deceased and therefore this case is not being nominated” to the terrorist database.
