British journalist and renowned free speech activist Tommy Robinson was arrested in Calgary, Canada, shortly after delivering a powerful speech that criticized censorship and government overreach.

Tommy Robinson, known for his fervent advocacy against censorship, was in Canada for a speaking tour organized in partnership with Rebel News, a conservative Canadian media outlet.

His tour was scheduled to include stops in Edmonton and Toronto following his Calgary event.

His speech, which received a standing ovation from the audience, was abruptly followed by his arrest. Ten police officers, including both uniformed and undercover personnel, swarmed Robinson after he exited the venue, placed him in an SUV, and drove him away

NEW: The European Union launched membership talks with Ukraine on Tuesday, a decade after Russian troops seized the Crimean Peninsula to deter the country from moving closer to the West, part of a chain of events that set the two neighbors on the path to war.

Ukraine’s accession negotiations were set in motion at an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg. Moldova is also due to launch its membership talks later Tuesday. While the events are a major milestone on their European paths, the talks could take years to conclude.

In opening remarks presented via video-link, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal described it as “a historic day” that marks “a new chapter” in his country’s ties with the bloc.

Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, whose country currently holds the EU’s rotating presidency, said that “this is a historic moment for us all, and marks a milestone in our relationship.”

BREAKING: Trump gag order partially lifted in hush money case ahead of first presidential debate

The ruling by Judge Juan Merchan comes two days before Trump is set to debate President Joe Biden for the first time in the 2024 campaign.

Merchan's ruling lifted restrictions on Trump's ability to comment on the witnesses who testified against him during his trial, as well as a part of the order barring him from discussing the jury that convicted him, essentially finding the witnesses' and the jury's work had concluded so there was no fear of impacting the proceedings. The ruling left in place a part of the order barring Trump from going after court staff, individual prosecutors and "family members of any counsel, staff member, the Court or the District Attorney."

Mexican authorities arrested a former U.S. soldier who had allegedly been building explosives for the Gulf Cartel just south of the Texas border. The arrest had been kept largely under wraps as federal authorities built up the case against him, as he stands accused of manufacturing land mines and other explosives.

Breitbart Texas confirmed with sources from Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office that in May, a group of federal officers arrested William Louis Anhert in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas. The arrest came during a raid at a camp used by the Escorpiones faction of the Gulf Cartel. During that raid, authorities arrested several Gulf Cartel gunmen and seized various explosive devices and components.
