Workers in San Francisco leaped into action with their makeshift tools to battle a grass fire that burned right up to local businesses on Thursday afternoon. In the face of a fierce fire, the workers made a brave stand, holding back the flames until the SF firefighters could get on the scene.

WASHINGTON DC Firefighters extinguished a fire at an electrical substation in NW Washington, D.C., on Wed, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. The fire was reported in the 2100 block of N St NW around 6:19 p.m., where crews responded to find smoke coming from the roof of the 2-story electrical substation. D.C. Fire and EMS said firefighters found a fire involving a capacitor bank on the roof. The blaze was extinguished and contained without extending to adjacent buildings. No injuries or resident displacements were reported. YARMOUTH, Massachusetts From Yarmouth Police: Route 28 is closed between The Cove Resort and Camp St. There is NO access to Route 28 from Town Brook Rd. This is a result of multiple electrical transformer failures. _ Eversource is reporting 650 customers without power as of 3:30 PM Wednesday. Further update from Yarmouth Police: Due to a power surge and multiple transformer explosions, ROUTE 28 is CLOSED to ALL traffic between CAMP ST and HIGGINS CROWELL RD. Please use caution if traveling nearby to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while utility crews and emergency personnel work to safely restore power.
