DEVELOPING: The Pearl Hill Fire - Outside Bridgeport, Washington State.

"At approximately 1:45 PM, we received a 911 call reference a fire near Rd J NE and Rd 28 NE in the Pearl Hill area near Bridgeport.  The fire is being driven to the north/northeast by high winds, and it eventually went 3rd Alarm around 2:25 PM.

The Douglas County Sheriff has issued a Level 2 Fire Evacuation Notice for the area.

The following areas are in a level 2 "Be ready to leave"
Rd 28 NE from Rd J NE to Rd Q NE (Fielder Rd); and every road to the north of this section, to include Rd L NE (Chalk Hills Rd), Rd 30 NE, Rd K NE, Rd M NE, Lone Pine Lake, Judson Lake and Dudley Lake areas. Also included is Brandt's Landing.

Currently, air resources are being utilized, so we ask the public to refrain from impeding rotor and fixed wing operations on the river, and absolutely no public drone use in the area.

RARE SUMMER NOR’EASTER: July 28-30, 2026

Don’t worry we’re not talking about snow, but you’ll probably start to hear about this soon. The ring of fire weather pattern, which is bringing 100 degree heat to the Plains and rounds of storms from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic will develop into a separate storm system off the Atlantic coast in the middle of this week.

This is caused by a strong blocking high to the north over Greenland, known as the negative phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation

This is responsible for deepening the upper level trough over the eastern US, which has brought relatively cool and less humid weather in recent days. In fact, it has probably brought the most comfortable weather of the season so far.

But going forward, as a shortwave approaches from the Ohio Valley, it will redevelop into a coastal low otherwise known as a Nor’easter. The blocking high causes storms to slow down or stall which means it will be over the region for multiple days. We see this each year during the Fall and Winter but rarely in July.

The end result? A good soaking which will bring 2-4” of rain to much of the Northeast. Embedded within that will likely be gusty winds and perhaps even some severe weather. In some ways this is beneficial as it will further erase the drought over the region.
