Several areas in the northern part of the country were hit by a powerful wave of convective weather. Veneto and Piedmont experienced extreme downpours, large hail, downbursts, and damaging wind gusts. The worst damage occurred in Bovolone, in the province of Verona. A stationary thunderstorm system remained virtually stationary and dropped over 200 mm of rain in about two hours. This amount is comparable to several months of normal precipitation, all in a matter of hours. Bovolone was completely submerged. Streets, basements, garages, and cars were flooded. Strong winds toppled trees and damaged roofs. One tree fell on the Legnago-Nogara railway line. Firefighters had to rescue two people trapped in a van in the flooded area.

Romania

Severe storms and hurricanes hit several regions of Romania. In Brașov Municipality and the neighboring town of Simpetru, gusts of wind knocked trees down onto a parked car and the roadway. Heavy rainfall in Brașov led to flooding of garages on Temeliei Street, where rescuers were using motor pumps to pump out the water. In Alba County, floodwaters caused a mudslide on the DN 75 highway between the towns of Arieșeni and Vârtop. A strong hailstorm swept through Vaslui County. As a result of the storm, nearly 5,000 people in Vaslui were left without power.
