Vanity Fair cuts ties with journalist Brittany Romano after viral video showed her smiling and winking at a pool camera during the Lindsay Clancy murder trial β a case involving a mother accused of killing her three children during postpartum psychosis.
The magazine said Romano was credentialed to write a personal essay about growing up with Clancy, but dropped her after what they called "clear conflicts with our editorial standards and processes." Romano has since defended herself on Instagram, saying her smile was a nervous system response to anxiety β not indifference to the proceedings.

Ras Badran, Egypt
Local Development and Environment Minister Manal Awad announced Wed the repair of a crude oil pipeline leak off Ras Badran in South Sinai after containing a spill that reached parts of the Abu Rudeis public beach.
The Suez and Sinai branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) received a report of an oil slick about 2 kilometers from the Ras Badran offshore site.
Field monitoring revealed the slick extended across 3 kilometers. Divers and pollution control crews cleared contaminated materials for safe disposal according to environmental standards, while offshore production platforms underwent a partial shutdown to locate the precise breach.
After Petrobel dispatched a specialized maintenance vessel to seal the pipeline, technicians conducted leak tests before preparing to resume operations.

America's largest reservoir has sunk to its lowest level in history, pushing 40 mil people closer to
Lake Mead has lost 180 feet of water over the past 3 decades as repeated droughts starved the reservoir of the water needed to replenish it.
The vast lake, which stretches along the Colorado River bw NV & AZ, now stands below 1,040 feet above sea level, edging closer to levels that could cripple electricity production at Hoover Dam.
AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Chad Merrill called the extreme drought 'the tipping point' in a decades-long cycle of dry weather across the West, warning that water shortages and power problems are now almost unavoidable.
'At least through the fall season, there's still going to be significant shortages of water,' Merrill told the Daily Mail.

Bees are collapsing in Castlemaine and across Victoria. A local just sent me this photo of their dead hive, and several others are reporting the same. I believe Israeli acute paralysis virus, or IAPV, is the culprit. This RNA virus spreads through the hive via food and the varroa mite. It infects bees at every stage, from eggs to queens, and disrupts their energy production and nervous system. Infected bees shiver, become disoriented, and paralyze. They crawl out of the hive or die just outside, often with darkened bodies and hair loss. This rapid collapse is devastating colonies. The pressure from the new varroa mite, now resistant to synthetic miticides, is making things worse. Save the Bees Australia is tracking this closely

The FDA has authorised Aletta, a device from Dutch company Vitestro that finds a vein, inserts the needle and fills the tubes without a human touching the patient. It uses near infrared light to spot the vein, then ultrasound and Doppler to measure its depth and confirm it is not an artery, before an arm places the needle with sub millimetre precision. In a 1,633 patient trial published in Clinical Chemistry, it hit the vein on the first attempt 94.5% of the time.
