UK farmers literally paid by the government NOT to grow food for 3 years?

Cornish farmer drops truth bomb: “The Government has offered us a scheme whereby we get paid for not supplying food for 3 years.”

Why incentivize NOT supplying food for humans? But the farmers are paid to grow bird seed and bee 🐝 mix to feed the wildlife.

This makes me so angry because many farmers will take the bait.
They’ve been battered in several ways including making growing crops uneconomic or at least much riskier than it used to be.
Now offering them free money, no risk to them, for three years?
Why wouldn’t you take it, especially if your neighbours are?
