NYC, New York An Amtrak maintenance vehicle caught fire in a Hudson River tunnel bw New York and New Jersey early Friday, suspending Penn Station service for NJ Transit and Long Island Rail Road commuters. LIRR service has since resumed, but NJ Transit said its "impacts are expected to last through the morning rush hour." The fire, which involved an Amtrak contractor maintenance vehicle, erupted in the Hudson River tunnel at about 1:25 a.m., Amtrak said. One NJ Transit passenger called the experience "frightening," telling ABC News, "Someone yelled there was a fire on the track ... there was a very loud explosion that shook the train and caused the lights to go out. We didn't move for maybe 8 to 10 minutes." Amtrak service is also impacted. SUSQUEHANNA CO., Pennsylvania Around 5pm last night Union dale fire was requested by Pleasant Mount Emergency Services Inc for a patient who fell in a sink hole on the rail-trail in the location of creek road. Our brush truck responded with a total of 6 personnel on scene. Patient was removed from the sink hole and transported by 28 EMS to a local hospital. Outages have hit multiple districts in recent days, with road congestion caused by knocked-out traffic lights. "Due to the difficult situation, which we are currently managing, there may be service disruptions, including sporadic ⁠power outages," a spokesperson for local utility Iren told Reuters, adding that the city was not at a standstill. The company, which serves about 650,000 electricity customers in Turin, said the heatwave arrived earlier than expected. HOUSTON, Texas Houston police are responding to a train derailment near Old Katy Road and Hempstead Road in northwest Houston Friday morning. According to the Houston PD, the call first came in around 8:55 a.m. as a crash involving only the train. Officials said part of the train is hanging off a bridge in the area. No injuries were initially reported on the call slip, though officials are still working to confirm that information with the Houston Fire Department. Union Pacific was notified of the derailment but says it is not involved.
