St Thomas / St John, USVI A total blackout hit St. Thomas and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands early Sunday, the second this weekend as the U.S. territory struggles with increasingly frequent outages. The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said in a statement that the outages stemmed from the loss of generation at a power plant. The first blackout hit late on Saturday, and despite crews restoring power overnight, another blackout hit hours later. BOSTON, Massachusetts Thousands of people were left without power in parts of Boston on Monday morning. Over 10,000 customers were without power at one point, though electricity had been restored to everyone as of 8 a.m. The outages appeared to be pretty widespread, with some traffic lights dark. Most of the outages appeared to be Eversource customers. Eversource initially said the outage was due to an underground equipment issue that happened just before 6 a.m., impacting about 10,000 customers. They said around 7 a.m. that they had restored power to about 3,000 customers and their crews were on site in South Boston working to restore power to the remaining customers. All customers had their power back as of 8 a.m., Eversource said.
