EVANSTON, Illinois

CTA Yellow Line passengers were forced to evacuate after a downed tree caused a derailment in Evanston, Illinois, during storms on Thursday night. 

The derailment forced dozens of passengers to evacuate the train on elevated tracks around 11 p.m. Officials said a train struck the downed tree, leading to the partial derailment. 

Firefighters spent an hour using chainsaws to clear a pathway to evacuate passengers safely. They even used ropes to help guide adults and children down the slippery 30-foot slope.

"Just out of nowhere, it started shaking, and everybody was on the floor, seeming to brace themselves. It was just really quick; we didn't even know what was happening," a passenger told CBS News Chicago. 

No injuries were reported.

MONMOUTH CO., New Jersey

A sinkhole has closed the right WB lane of Route 33 in Neptune Township, officials said.

The New Jersey DOT and New Jersey American Water are on scene, and no additional information was immediately available.

RICHMOND, Virginia

BREAKING NEWS: Train Derailment in Richmond Sends 3 Rail Cars into Canal

Emergency personnel are currently on scene of a train derailment in Richmond after three rail cars derailed and entered the James River.

The derailment occurred in the area of Dock St and S 21st St. Sources tell us the derailed rail cars were grain. Additionally, another rail car that is still on the tracks is actively spilling corn.

The scene remains active as emergency personnel continue working at the scene, and the area remains closed while crews continue to operate.
