The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited over 120 high school students from Africa to participate in exchanges with Japanese youth as part of a project to cultivate the next generation of "Japanophiles" who understand Japanese society.

The "Africa Youth Program," which promotes mutual understanding between Japanese and African youth, is one of the youth exchange programs announced by the government at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) held last August, and was held for the first time this year.

A total of 124 high school students from five countries -Cameroon, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya, and Mozambique-visited Japan for 10 days from the end of June, participating in homestays in regional cities and company visits.
