FAYETTEVILLE, West Virginia

A vehicle was swallowed by a sinkhole that opened in Fayetteville Tuesday evening after heavy rain moved through the area.

The rainfall caused a sinkhole to form in the parking lot of Maggie’s Pub on Keller Avenue, where it engulfed a parked vehicle.

No one was inside the vehicle at the time, and no injuries were reported.

As of Wed morning, the vehicle remained lodged inside the sinkhole.

CENTRE CO., Pennsylvania

A sinkhole has appeared on the grounds of the Centre County Correctional Facility in Benner Twp, leading to the closure of a portion of a road near the main entrance.

County officials are prioritizing its immediate repair, with initial estimates indicating the hole is up to 20 feet deep.

The sinkhole formed adjacent to one of the roads on the facility property and county officials believe it could extend beneath the roadway. This assessment prompted the closure of a section of the road.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee

A sinkhole developed on Pierce Rd bw Shannon and Palmer Ave. All lanes are currently closed to traffic.

According to local resident Lynn Morton, the roadway was “still eroding” as of about 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22.
