🇺🇸Why did the U.S. and Israel strike Iran right in the middle of peace talks?

The roots go back to the 1950s, when Iran’s oil was controlled by Western powers, leaving the country with just a fraction of the profits. That imbalance fueled resentment, which later led to the 1979 Islamic Revolution and a decades-long conflict with the United States.

Today, the tension is centered around Iran’s nuclear program. Iran claims it’s for peaceful energy, while the U.S. and Israel insist it’s a cover for building a nuclear weapon.

In February 2026, the world was watching negotiations in Geneva, hoping for a дипломатическое решение.

But instead — in the middle of those talks — strikes began.

Red lines were erased overnight.

And this may be just the beginning.

A massive iceberg suddenly flipped over near the town of Ilulissat in western Greenland, creating a dramatic scene that was captured on video. As the giant block of ice rotated, it sent powerful waves across the surrounding water and startled people watching from a safe distance. Fortunately, no injuries or damage were reported.

Icebergs can flip when melting changes the way their weight is distributed. As the underwater portion melts, the iceberg becomes unstable and can suddenly roll over to reach a new balance. These events are a natural part of an iceberg's life cycle, but they can generate large waves that are dangerous for boats and anyone too close to the ice.

Ilulissat is one of the world's most famous iceberg regions, fed by the fast-moving Sermeq Kujalleq glacier. The area regularly attracts scientists and tourists because of its spectacular ice formations, but experts warn that visitors should always keep a safe distance, as collapsing or flipping icebergs can occur without warning.
