MOOSIC, Pennsylvania

The Moosic Borough PD said it began receiving multiple 911 calls, along with calls to the police station, at about 8 p.m. Friday from residents reporting what they described as a large explosion.

Officers, along with firefighters from Station 98 and surrounding EMS agencies, conducted an extensive search of the borough but were unable to locate the source of the reported blast.

Police also contacted the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, which confirmed there was no aircraft activity in the area that would have caused a sonic boom.

Authorities said they have not received any reports of property damage, fires or power outages connected to the incident.

At this time, police say the cause of the reported explosion remains unknown, and there is no known threat to the public.

Con Edison said an electrical issue caused a power outage in the Norwood section of The Bronx on Thurs, July 31, leaving some residents without power for a duration of the day.
 
A video recorded by Norwood resident Marcos Sierra showed smoke billowing out of 2 separate manholes on Mosholu Parkway bw West Gun Hill Road and Gates Place on Thurs, as local residents simultaneously experienced a power outage.

A Con Ed representative said, “Our crews responded to a report of a smoking manhole yesterday. They worked to make repairs to a faulty cable and safely restored customers to service.”

Meanwhile, on Sat, Aug. 1, in addition to heavy smoke, flames were seen emerging from a manhole on Myrtle Ave in Brooklyn.
