On the bright side, when the UK asked people to register their birds, people were so irked that they started going to the DEFRA (UK USDA) site and registering roast turkeys and chicken nuggets en masse, until the government's site crashed entirely.
This is a reminder — a somewhat silly, small-scale example, but one nonetheless — that we the people have much more power than they want us to believe.
