You might already have the start of an emergency kit at home. 👀🏠

Preparedness doesn’t always mean expensive gear.

Duct tape, zip-top bags, foil, towels, a flashlight, blankets — ordinary items can become surprisingly useful when the power goes out or plans suddenly change.

The key isn’t owning everything.
It’s knowing what you have, where it is, and how it can help.

Start simple.
Organize the basics.
Add what you’re missing over time.

Because when something unexpected happens, the most useful gear might be something you already own.

📌 Save these 9 everyday items for your emergency kit.

How many of these 9 do you already have at home? 👇

Finding water is only half the battle. 💧🏔️

In the backcountry, clear water doesn’t always mean safe water. Knowing how to collect, pre-filter, filter, and treat it can make a big difference when you’re miles from the nearest tap.

A few trail rules worth remembering:

💧 Start with the cleanest source available
🔥 Boil when appropriate
🧴 Carry a reliable filter or treatment method
🌧️ Know how to collect rainwater
❄️ Melt snow before drinking
🎒 Always carry a backup treatment option

And remember: filtering visible debris is not the same as disinfecting water.

Save these 10 wilderness water skills before your next trip. 📌

What’s your go-to water treatment method on the trail? 👇

💧 Water isn’t always the whole story on the trail.

During long hikes—especially in hot weather or when you’re sweating heavily—you’re losing both water and electrolytes. Sodium, potassium, magnesium and other electrolytes all play a role in normal muscle, nerve and fluid balance.

A simple trail reminder:
💧 Drink regularly
Consider electrolytes on long, hot or high-sweat hikes
🥜 Pack balanced trail food
🌡️ Adjust hydration to the weather, intensity and duration

Hydration isn’t about drinking as much water as possible. It’s about replacing what your body actually loses.

Save this for your next long hike. 🥾⛰️
