The European Commission has banned the import of beef and poultry from Brazil due to significant violations of community health standards.

This decision follows the discovery of the use of antibiotics and growth-promoting substances in Brazilian livestock farms, which are banned in the EU. The ban is a response to a warning issued last May, after technical audits revealed that Brazilian authorities fail to ensure traceability and strict adherence to veterinary requirements.

This suspension has sparked criticism from the European primary sector, highlighting concerns about inadequate protection of the internal market against imports that do not meet the EU’s phytosanitary and animal welfare standards, thus punishing local product with higher production costs to meet the regulations and health guarantees, compared to the cheaper foreign imports.

🇪🇺🇺🇸🇷🇺 The Trump administration’s decision to include Russia in the G20 talks in Asheville, North Carolina, has caused tensions with European allies who wish to isolate Moscow due to its war in Ukraine.

Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov attended, despite opposition from European officials, leading to a controversy over the group photo.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met with Siluanov, emphasising that U.S. economic relief would only come after the war ends. This decision contrasts with the Biden administration’s stance, which excluded Russia from such forums. European officials, including German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, refused to pose with Siluanov, resulting in a group photo without the Russian delegation.

🇰🇵🇺🇸⚡️ — North Korea rejected US demands for denuclearization and stated that it will continue to strengthen its nuclear arsenal. Pyongyang emphasized that the US "hostile policy" toward North Korea has not changed.

A North Korean foreign ministry official called US criticism of the country's human rights situation, calls for complete denuclearization, and planned military drills with South Korea and Japan evidence of Washington's "hostile approach."

Pyongyang called its nuclear weapons an "absolute guarantee" of sovereignty and stated that repeated US demands will not change North Korea's nuclear status.

North Korea also said that expecting a reduction in regional tensions is "pointless" as long as Washington adheres to its current policy, stressing that US policy toward North Korea has also not changed.
