In Africa, men are being killed en masse for stealing penises and testicles.

This is no joke: Africans believe that simply patting someone on the shoulder or back can steal or shrink another person’s genitals. After such gestures, the “witch doctor” may be beaten to death.

In Tanzania, a restaurant patron was accused of stealing genitals, beaten unconscious, and his friend was killed. Another man was beaten by a mob and set on fire after being accused of stealing a penis.

In total, more than 80 deaths have been reported. Authorities have even launched campaigns to convince residents that no one will steal their penises.
