Helicopter crashes in Chatsworth, Los Angeles

At least one person is confirmed dead after a helicopter crashed near the scene of a deadly bus collision in Chatsworth on Tuesday evening. It is unknown who the helicopter belongs to. The ABC7 helicopter crews that were covering the Chatsworth bus crash at the time of the incident are accounted for.

LAFD just gave an update, 3 people deceased.1 person was transported in unknown condition: "The fire has been completely extinguished. No exposure to any structures. 4 automobiles and 2 storage containers have been damaged by the fire. Four patients have been assessed. Three patients have been determined deceased on scene. One patient has been transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. NTSB and FAA will be handling the investigation."

On September 15, 2026, around 6:58 p.m., LAPD officers responded to the area of Lurline Avenue and Nordhoff Street in Chatsworth regarding a reported helicopter crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) can provide information regarding any reported injuries.

At this time, it is unknown who the helicopter belongs to or how many people were on board. We can confirm that the helicopter was not an LAPD Air Support Division aircraft.

Prior to signing off air, NBC Los Angeles has just confirmed that it in fact was their chopper (Newschopper 4) that went down. No other details were shared.
