Something is happening with ticks right now, and farmers are starting to talk.

I am hearing directly from farmers in the Midwest about unusual tick activity in their fields. Reports of boxes of ticks being found. Reports of ticks being seen in ways that feel out of the ordinary.

At the same time, we are seeing a very real increase in tick populations across our region. Longer seasons. More exposure. More aggressive environments.

And in my practice, I am seeing the impact.

More Lyme
More chronic symptoms
More alpha gal

As someone who has personally walked through Lyme, this is not something I take lightly. And it is not something I am willing to ignore.

Whether every single report has an explanation yet or not, one thing is clear. Ticks are increasing. Exposure is increasing. And so are the health challenges that come with it.

This is not about fear. This is about awareness.

If you live on land, have animals, or spend time outdoors, this matters more than you think.

TOLEDO, Ohio

Toledo Fire and Rescue crews, as well as Toledo Edison crews, responded to the scene of an electrical substation fire in central Toledo Tuesday morning, an incident that left 6,000 customers without power.

Crews responded to the substation located at the intersection of North Detroit and Council around 8 a.m.

A TFRD battalion chief told WTOL 11 that a small fire broke out in the substation and had been burning for a number of hours.

Toledo Edison arrived on scene before TFRD, but the FD said it took only a few seconds to put the fire out.

They added the fire had been caused by a fault.

Power is expected to be restored soon, TFRD said. By 8:50 a.m., fewer than 500 customers were without power.

OSHKOSH, Wisconsin

No one quite knows for certain what shook Oshkosh and Fond du Lac Monday afternoon, March 30, after residents said a rather abrupt and thunderous boom rattled houses and hearts around 3 p.m.

The NWS immediately ruled out the possibility of storms, saying there were no systems in the area at that time, while the USGS showed zero signs of seismic activity in the state.

Officials from the Experimental Aircraft Association said they were not aware of any military operations in the area but also didn't rule out the possibility of a fighter jet-induced sonic boom.

Winnebago Co Sheriff John Matz said his dept was working on identifying the cause of the boom while calls to the Oshkosh PD and FD were not immediately returned.
