A powerful early-season heat dome is sweeping across much of the United States, bringing dangerously high temperatures to nearly 50 million people. Forecasters predict widespread highs above 90°F (32°C), with more than 11 million Americans potentially facing triple-digit heat above 100°F (38°C).

The most intense conditions are expected across the Intermountain West and central Plains, where a strong high-pressure system is trapping heat and allowing temperatures to climb day after day. The scorching pattern will gradually shift eastward, reaching the Midwest and East Coast by the weekend.

This heat is arriving unusually early in the season — a factor that heightens the danger. Human bodies haven’t yet acclimated to sustained summer temperatures, and roads, power grids, and buildings may be less prepared for sudden extremes. Scientists note that climate change is increasing the frequency, intensity, duration, and geographic reach of these events.

People in southern Russia are reporting a surge in unusually aggressive Hyalomma ticks, which reportedly actively chase hosts instead of simply waiting in grass like ordinary forest ticks.

Russian media say the large ticks have become particularly active across regions including Rostov, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Astrakhan and Kalmykia.

The main concern is that Hyalomma ticks can carry Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, a potentially deadly disease with a high fatality rate if untreated.

Some reports also claim the ticks are far less responsive to standard repellents than ordinary species.

🇫🇷 Police in France are warning drivers in rural areas to be on the lookout for drunk deer exhibiting erratic behavior caused by the consumption of fermented fruits — or as police called it, a “forest aperitif.”

The French police shared a video of a deer stumbling around in circles, jumping erratically, and basically acting like it's had one too many. The natural sugars ferment in their stomachs, giving them a buzz similar to being drunk—it's nothing like humans experience; it's just a wild-animal thing.
