Canadian National Railroad crews reported to their dispatch that a derailment had occurred in their Fort Dodge rail yard just after midnight. It appeared no assistance was requested from local first responders and railroad personnel were on scene investigating.

Gyomaendrőd, Hungary

A serious railway accident disrupted traffic on one of Hungary’s key eastern rail routes on Thursday afternoon after an InterCity train derailed near Gyomaendrőd in southeastern Hungary.

According to the state railway company MÁV, one passenger suffered serious injuries and another was lightly hurt in the incident.

MÁV said the train derailed shortly after leaving Gyoma railway station under circumstances that remain unclear. The locomotive and 5-carriage trainset saw 4 carriages leave the tracks, causing major damage along approx 300 metres of railway line.

Although the carriages tilted during the derailment, they did not overturn completely.

SUFFOLK CO., New York

3 lanes are currently closed on the Long Island Expressway WB at Exit 49 due to a sinkhole.

The lane closure is expected to last at least 24 hours, police say.

The sinkhole is approx 10 feet in diameter and 8 feet deep.

Suffolk Co police say the sinkhole was reported to them around 1 p.m.

No details have been released on the cause of the hole, but police say one car is partially in the hole.
