We are losing the fireflies.
There is a lot about the climate crisis that feels unthinkable. A world without fireflies is one of them.
There are over 2,600 species of fireflies on Earth. Scientists have only been able to assess 150 of them. Of those, 1 in 5 are now threatened with extinction.
Why? Because the stuff we spray on lawns, parks, farms, and gardens is killing them, as well as other insects we rely on to survive.
