Postdoctoral vacancy (3 years) on multi-scale thermomechanical modelling of thermoplastic composites
UGent-MMS has a postdoctoral vacancy for 3 years on a large research project with a strong industrial consortium. The purpose is to develop multi-scale thermomechanical models for thermoplastic composites, that take into account the effects of temperature, loading rate and crystallinity.

Who do we look for ?
you are interested in research and have obtained a Master and/or PhD degree,
you are interested to interact and collaborate closely with the industrial partners during the research period,
you have an education in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computational Mechanics, or similar,
you are familiar with mechanics of materials and experimental or computational techniques (depending on the specific vacancy requirement mentioned above),
mastering the Dutch language is not a prerequisite, but a good knowledge of English writing and speaking is absolutely required.

PhD Studentship - Embedding Uncertainty In CAD
In the following project novel methods for the representation of geometric uncertainty within a commercial CAD environment will be explored. The ultimate aim of this will be to embed uncertainty within a CAD part and simplify its inclusion to such a degree that uncertainty is included as routinely as tolerances on a drawing.
This project is funded by Rolls-Royce plc as part of their support to the R-R University technology Centre for Computational Engineering at Southampton. In addition to the basic tax free student stipend of £15,141pa, R-R will provide a further tax free stipend increment of £9,000 pa and therefore in line with their graduate recruitment schemes. The stipend will rise in subsequent years. Funding for travel to international conferences will be available.

Position description: Four postdoctoral research fellows and two PhD positions are now open for ERC Starting Grant wth focus on nano energy harvester. The project is financially supported by ERC Starting Grant from Horizon2020. Applicants considering their interests, skills and backgrounds will be placed on different tasks of the project including: machine learning for materials design; nanoscale experiments and characterization; atomistic and continuum modelling of nanomaterials, nanostructures and nano energy harvesters; sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification; probabilistic optimization, validation and verification.
Opportunitie The positions will be based on the contract salary system in Germany (TVL).
Research environment: The postdocs and PhD students will be placed at the Institute of Continuum Mechanics (IKM) at Leibniz-University Hannover (LUH), one of the leading institutes in computational mechanics. The group chaired by Prof. Xiaoying Zhuang currently consists of approximately 17 Researchers (postdoc and PhD students). LUH boasts the Graduate School “Multiscale Methods for Interface Coupling” (MUSIC) that focuses on the experimental and virtual testing, modelling and scientific computing in engineering sciences.
