The Mechanics and Energy Laboratory within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Northwestern University, directed by Prof. Alessandro F. Rotta Loria, is looking to hire a post-doctoral researcher. The selected post-doctoral researcher will develop a project on the multiphysical behavior of geomaterials subjected to direct current electric fields through experimental investigations and theoretical analyses. This full-time position is for a duration of 1 year, starting on April 1st 2020, with the possibility of a contract extension.
To be considered for this position, a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mechanics, materials science, civil or environmental engineering, chemistry, physics or other related fields is required. Expertise and interest in multiphysical experimental laboratory testing are required. Independent research skills, teamwork attitude, commitment, and excellent communication skills are desired for this position.

The project will involve analytical and numerical studies of a new type of an interfacial elastic wave called the antiplane slip wave.
Eligibility: First class M.E./M.Tech./M.S. in Mechanical/Civil Engineering/Applied Mechanics or M.Sc. in Physics or M.Sc. in Mathematics. Exceptional B. Tech. candidates will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in applied mathematics and scientific computing. Candidates who have qualified GATE/CSIR-UGC NET/DST INSPIRE will be given preference.
Fellowship: Salary and benefits amounting to Rs. 45,000 per month

The research topic is on the area of Mechanics of Architected Multifunctional Materials. Theoretical and computational multiscale modelling along with experimental (3D printing and characterization) studies will be conducted for nonlinear and multiphysics analysis of rationally-designed architected materials. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Hamid Akbarzadeh at McGill University.
Required qualifications for the position are:
1. Strong background on Advanced mechanics of materials, Computational multiscale mechanics, Instability analysis, Fracture mechanics, Cellular solids, and Architected materials.
2. Proficiency in nonlinear finite element analysis and using commercial finite element packages such as ANSYS/ABAQUS and COMSOL is a must.
3. Experience with Metamaterials design, Multiscale homogenization, Plasticity, and nonlinear plate and shell modelling is an asset.
4. Excellent programing skills using MATLAB and Python/C.
5. Good publication records.
6. Proficiency in English and high undergraduate and graduate GPA for admission to McGill University.

Postdoc position - Mechanical Engineering at UIC
We have an immediate opening for a postdoctoral student to join computational biomechanics laboratory at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the areas of either computational mechanics or experimental methods. Candidate are expected to have strong background in numerical simulations / computer programming and/or experimental characterization of soft tissue mechanics.
Please note that we are primarily interested in applicants who are available to join the lab immediately
