No new cases of COVID-19 in Kerala

No new cases of COVID-19 were detected in the state on Wednesday, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The total number of people under observation is 25,603. Of these, 25,366 are in homes and 237 in hospitals. On Wednesday, 57 people were admitted to hospital. A total of 7861 people were put under surveillance.

4622 people have been released from observation following confirmation that they were not carrying the virus. Out of the 2,250 samples sent for inspection, 2140 have been confirmed as non-infectious. As long as vigilance continues, people's lives should continue to continue as normal.

But in the event of an increase in infectious cases,  necessary precautions will be taken. More people should be submit to testing. Treatment facilities will be increased for this purpose. OP facilities will be open for longer hours at family health centers and Primary Healthcare Centers. Steps have been taken to appoint doctors in these centers at local levels.

Advance preparations have been made to counter any sudden spike in cases. More doctors, nurses and paramedical staff are required.. Steps will also be taken to ensure the service and cooperation of retirees. A list of such persons is being prepared at district level. It has come to light that organizers are not refunding people who have cancelled pre-arranged weddings during this time. The district administration should take cognizance of the situation and make necessary interventions to get the money back to the concerned parties. This should be done with full awareness of the situation facing us.

The amenities of hotels and lodges should be utilized to facilitate the opening of COVID Care Centers in all districts,  Providing online delivery of goods can help people avoid congestion or crowding in shops. At the same time, those who go for home delivery must follow preventative measures to avoid contamination of themselves and others. Sanitizer must be made available at point-of-sale machines for card payment in shops and also at ATMs. If more facilities are needed, the buildings of the government institutions will also be used, said the Chief Minister.
Mass religious gatherings and prayers must be avoided: Chief Minister.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan made an appeal to religious leaders in the state to prevent crowds gathering in the name of religious ceremonies and prayers in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A video conference was held, which was attended by religious leaders from all fourteen districts in the presence of district collectors. The chief minister said that the intervention of religious leaders had resulted in the avoidance of large crowds in accordance with the government's guidelines.  Large-scale crowds had been avoided so far. The Chief Minister thanked all those who understood the seriousness of the issue and worked with the government to overcome issues.

Friday prayers in mosques and Sunday Mass gatherings must be avoided. Although this is a time when many temple festivals like Pongala take place, control must be exercised. Such festivals and prayers should be limited to the bare minimum of religious rites. The understanding and cooperation of religious leaders in Pathanamthitta was exemplary in this regard.

No more than ten people should be involved in temple ceremonies, said the Chief Minister.  Religious leaders to participate in the preventive efforts to slow the spread of the viral pandemic, he added.

Full cooperation with government decisions was assured by religious leaders across the board. The video conference was attended by ministers E.Chandrasekharan and KT Jaleel.
