Calvin and I are still friends. I'm not contractually chained to anyone—I'm free to act as I choose. As for BSV, I’ve spent the last decade trying to destroy the myth that it can’t scale. I never expected the opposition to stop now. They’ll keep trying to crush the idea of scalable digital cash, but they won’t succeed.

In terms of blockchain’s mainstream advances, July was a month in which that Hemingway quote about ‘gradually, then suddenly’ felt bang-on.
The U.S. House passed three digital asset bills, including the stablecoin-focused GENIUS Act that President Trump signed into law. Tradfi banks and corporates were already ramping up their stablecoin initiatives and this will only accelerate going forward.
Even banks that aren’t prepping in-house stablecoins are moving forward with alternatives like tokenized money market funds, offering investors greater flexibility and access.
goldmansachs.com/pressroom/pres…
The House also passed a digital asset market structure bill and the Senate followed with their own market structure discussion draft. Lots of stakeholder squabbling lies ahead but events are moving at a pace that would have seemed impossible a few years ago.
The House-approved anti-CBDC bill seems redundant. The Bank of England recently lost faith in its CBDC project, joining Canada, South Korea and others. Meanwhile, nations that don’t listen to their citizens (China, Russia) are pressing forward. Things that make you go hmm….
bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
America’s new welcoming environment convinced Telegram to open its TON Wallet to U.S. customers, bringing self-custodial transactions to a U.S.-facing social platform for the first time.

Progress isn’t limited to America. According to recent filings, Saudi Arabia’s blockchain corporate registrations spiked 51% in Q2. Ghana’s central banker plans to license blockchain operators. Nigeria’s securities regulator wants to license stablecoin issuers. The dams are breaking.

So far, the blockchain solutions enjoying the most benefit are financial in nature, but my hope is that more data-driven solutions (supply chain management, IP rights management, etc.) will be able to take root in this newly receptive environment.

Hyperinflation is fueling the growth of stablecoins as citizens in a growing number of countries lose faith in local currencies but can’t access actual dollars.
The U.S. government has said dollar-denominated stablecoins will help preserve the dollar’s role as the global reserve currency. That’s in spite of decreasing faith in America’s ability to honour its long-term debts but also due to the lack of a credible dollar alternative.
The BRICS club may be growing but so long as China and Russia are two of its biggest components, the rest of the world isn’t going to build its financial houses on those uncertain foundations.
Some nations with failing currencies restrict access to real dollars but blockchains don’t always recognize borders. Venezuela is begrudgingly allowing the use of dollar-denominated stablecoins because U.S. sanctions are limiting inflows of hard currencies.
Some countries could soon face a choice of whether to join the nations that already use the dollar as their own currency, or at least accept the dollar alongside their national currency. And if they wait too long, their frustrated citizens might make that choice for them.
Stablecoins are the least ‘crypto’ thing in ‘crypto’ and are achieving significant adoption in mainstream finance precisely due to their non-speculative nature. Proof that rollercoasters belong in amusement parks, not on balance sheets (corporate or personal).

Last week, SEC chairman Paul Atkins said tokenization will ultimately handle not just equities trading but proxy voting, dividend payments and shareholder communications. The SEC will provide “compliant pathways” for market participants to take advantage of these new options.
Atkins believes the entire financial market could fully migrate onchain within two years. Regulators will have to decide whether stocks confer the same benefits/protections regardless of the rails they travel on, or if investors must accept a greater level of risk to enjoy greater freedom of movement.
foxbusiness.com/video/63859021…
On the whole, the US gov’t has signalled it isn’t likely to hold DeFi developers liable for how their platforms are used. So it could be left to DeFi users to ensure they’re not buying tokenized equities that contain no legal relation to the equity in question.
The benefits of tokenization are obvious: instant settlement, lower fees, 24/7 trading, etc. But there are also potential pitfalls, many of which regulators are only starting to contemplate.
For instance, spreading trades across disconnected DeFi platforms with a lack of uniform post-trade reporting could threaten price discovery. Direct P2P transfers and outsized leverage could inject additional uncertainty.
Private companies could choose to skip the IPO process entirely and just issue tokenized shares. This will bypass pre-listing financial proctology exams and post-listing quarterly reporting, but it will also lead to sketchier companies hiding skeletons that IPO scrutiny might have exposed.
The US deregulatory push will put pressure on other jurisdictions to follow suit. But laissez-faire comes at a cost. Recall that Canadian banks fared better than U.S. banks in 2008 because of tighter rules that limited the kind of freewheeling dealmaking that U.S. banks engaged in.
Technology generally progresses faster than law/regulations can keep up. Regulators now seem determined to make up for their lack of progress on this front over the past few years by moving as fast as they can. I welcome this revolution but hope we aren’t getting out ahead of our skis.
