https://subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2024/07/warren-knocks-stabenow-crypto-bill-00171165
https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html

Not all that glitters is gold. What goes up, must go down. And the BTC token has no utility (1/11)
The fiat value of prominent tokens like BTC nosedived over the past week, putting a serious crimp in BTC’s self-proclaimed status as ‘digital gold.’ Digital fool’s gold might be more appropriate. Or ‘digital pet rock,’ given its similar functionality (2/11)
BTC had been on an upward tear, allegedly thanks to Donald Trump’s ‘crypto’ embrace. The real causes remain as opaque as always *cough* market manipulation *cough* but when they run out of greater fools to bid it up higher, ‘number go up’ becomes ‘number go down’ (3/11)
The Tether stablecoin printer will probably spin up soon to provide an artificial floor under this deflating balloon and BTC whales will use the plunge to grow their existing stashes, further concentrating BTC ownership at the top, then the cycle will repeat (4/11)
But retail ‘investors’ won’t buy this dip. As the Coinbase exchange’s Q2 report showed, retail interest in tokens like BTC is dying. The predatory cycle has repeated often enough that FOMO (fear of missing out) has been replaced by FOBB (fear of being burned) (5/11)
As BTC’s ‘digital gold’ mantra is exposed as a hoax—actual gold hasn’t mirrored BTC’s plunge—the proposal to use it as a strategic reserve asset by the U.S. government (or pension funds adding BTC to their portfolios) is revealed to be A Very Bad Idea™ (6/11)
My critics might argue that the token associated with the BSV Blockchain technology that I support has also fallen in fiat value, which is technically correct. They might even have a point if fiat value was BSV’s only purpose. But it’s not (7/11)
Long ago, I got into blockchain for the technology. Over time, the tech-focused cohort was usurped by those seeking quick riches. It’s time to reclaim the purpose that Satoshi detailed in his Bitcoin white paper (8/11)
BTC’s falling price comes as block reward miners are already struggling due to the recent halving of the block reward. Worse, BTC’s mining difficulty just hit a new all-time high, driving the costs of mining even higher (9/11)
Expect BTC miners to continue their ‘pivot to AI’ as grid operators ask why they’re allocating so much of their supply to fuel a speculative bubble. If you can’t demonstrate a purpose beyond enriching a handful of bagholders, why should taxpayers underwrite this? (10/11)
Bottom line: if the BTC blockchain has no other purpose beyond ‘number go up,’ it deserves to fade into obscurity. Only blockchains that can demonstrate utility will endure. Look under the hood before you leap (11/11)

Google Trends shows an unprecedented surge in the volume of searches for ‘onchain’ over the past few months, even as searches for other blockchain-related terms (Bitcoin, NFTs, etc.) have either fallen or stayed within traditional ranges (1/9)
Some of this interest may have to do with the Coinbase exchange’s relentless promotion of ‘Onchain Summer,’ the annual hypefest of their proprietary Ethereum layer-two network Base, which has become increasingly important to the exchange’s future revenue growth (2/9)
However, the jurisdiction that produced the most searches for ‘onchain’ was India, where Coinbase was forced to suspend operations last year (after its habitual disregard for observing local regulations unsurprisingly annoyed local regulators) (3/9)
My hope is that the global ‘onchain’ interest has more to do with a shift from viewing blockchain tech as a vehicle for financial speculation to a focus on utility; the efficiency and accessibility that’s only possible via blockchain-based solutions (4/9)
On a more capable blockchain, these solutions include cost-effective micropayments, tokenization of real-world assets, immutable transaction records, data storage, self-executing smart contracts … the list is endless (5/9)
Unlike the financially speculative blockchain-related search terms, Google Trends shows consistency in the searches for Web3, reflecting the ongoing desire to transition away from the current centralized Web2 model of data-mining social media giants (6/9)
That’s a strong vote of confidence for the development of Metanet, the better, more inclusive and dynamic internet, an economically integrated online system that enables cost-effective, instant micropayments between creators and consumers (7/9)
Metanet requires a fusion of artificial intelligence, the IPv6 explosion in the number of unique IP addresses, and a strong, secure, SCALABLE blockchain to handle all these IP addresses communicating back and forth #BSV (8/9)
Let’s get back to basics by rediscovering the vision laid out by Satoshi Nakamoto 15 years ago. Consign speculative token-flipping to the ash heap of history. Embrace utility and explore the possibilities that blockchain has to offer (9/9)

Google Trends shows an unprecedented surge in the volume of searches for ‘onchain’ over the past few months, even as searches for other blockchain-related terms (Bitcoin, NFTs, etc.) have either fallen or stayed within traditional ranges (1/9)

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been the cat’s meow in terms of big-dollar investment over the past couple years, but the enormity of these buy-ins has some investors wondering when—or if—the payoff will come (1/13)
Investors have plowed billions into AI large language models (LLMs) and related projects. There’s endless hype regarding the technology’s abilities and lofty projections about the impact it will have on the global economy and on society (2/13)
But a recent Goldman Sachs report (‘Too much spend, too little benefit’) called these projections into question, with some analysts suggesting AI’s impact over the next decade won’t be anywhere near as great as currently imagined (3/13)
https://web.archive.org/web/20240629140307/http://goldmansachs.com/intelligence/pages/gs-research/gen-ai-too-much-spend-too-little-benefit/report.pdf
While most analysts believe that AI will ultimately prove a game-changer in a number of fields, including scientific discovery, research & development and new product testing (to name a few), some believe the shorter-term horizon will be far less dramatic (4/13)
Current AI architecture can increase efficiency through automation, but you eventually hit a productivity ceiling—at a staggering cost—and truly transformative changes could prove beyond the capabilities of existing models. And they NEED to fix the hallucination issue (5/13)
Meanwhile, the costs of developing and implementing AI are staggering and might not significantly decrease over time—and could soar if China’s bellicose stance re Taiwan (and its chip sector) moves beyond rhetoric to action—making further AI inroads cost-prohibitive (6/13)
Not all analysts are as fiscally pessimistic, arguing that AI’s current cost/benefit ratio isn’t that dissimilar from previous tech investment cycles, that technological breakthroughs are always around the corner and AI’s ‘killer app’ will eventually emerge (7/13)
None of the ‘Mag 7’ companies investing heavily in AI are struggling, at least, not according to their Q2 profits. But there’s definitely an arms race here, a fear of being left behind, so the spending spree will continue whether or not AI revenue keeps pace (8/13)
A possible tripwire is AI data centers’ insatiable energy appetite. Without some tangible proof that this technology will be as game-changing as its hype, will governments approve the massive infrastructure development needed to ensure AI continues to grow? (9/13)
AI’s energy requirements could prove even harder to justify down the road as the planet continues to heat and wildfires and other natural disasters increase in both frequency and intensity. A more efficient way to burn the world isn’t what’s needed here (10/13)
Blockchain technology has been subjected to similar criticism due to Satoshi launching Bitcoin 15 years ago and yet, as far as the wider public knows, there’s been no blockchain ‘killer app,’ just endless financial speculation, rug pulls and ‘number go sideways’ (11/13)
I have faith that AI will live up to the hype, just as I believe the public, governments and enterprises will eventually see the benefits that an endlessly scalable, utility-focused blockchain has to offer (12/13)
https://aerospike.com/news/bsv-association-and-aerospike-achieve-100-billion-bsv-blockchain-transactions-per-day-on-teranode/
Even better, AI will combine with enterprise blockchain and IPv6 to enable Metanet, the more inclusive and dynamic internet that enables cost-effective and intermediary-free instant micropayments between creators and consumers. Can’t get more ‘killer’ than that (13/13)

I’ve always embraced physical activity simply for the love of it but there’s a growing body of evidence that routinely elevating one’s heart rate significantly extends one’s life and fends off serious ailments. Who wouldn’t want to live longer AND better? (1/14)
https://www.news-medical.net/news/20240508/Higher-cardiorespiratory-fitness-levels-linked-to-dramatically-lower-mortality-and-disease-risks-study-finds.aspx
Like most guys, I started lifting weights in my teens, but I’d always been an ‘outdoorsy’ type, encouraged by having a dad who was basically an action hero (bear hunter, flew his own plane, took us kids on long forest treks, etc.) (2/14)
Also like most guys, I wanted to be fit so girls would notice me. But I grew up in Canada, where everyone plays hockey, so a little extra muscle was mandatory if you wanted to play that rough-and-tumble game well (3/14)
I was probably never destined to play in the NHL, but I was versatile, able to play both offense and defense. Coaches loved that because players are always getting injured, so being a guy on the bench who could adapt to what was needed at the moment was a definite plus (4/14)
As I got older, I incorporated other disciplines into my fitness routines, everything from martial arts to Pilates to yoga. Some things I stuck with, others just didn’t ‘fit’ for one reason or another, but you’ll never know if you don’t try (5/14)
I got into wakeboarding in a major way and still love to get out on the waves when my schedule permits. I don’t like to go too long between sessions, because it’s a serious all-body workout, and ‘use it or lose it’ is anything but a cliché (6/14)
Wakeboarding involves serious balance skills, and studies show balance training helps prevent the types of falls in seniors—I’m not there yet, but it’s in the mail—that break hips and restrict your future ability to exercise. Stay upright, stay fit (7/14)
https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/fall-prevention-exercises
The older I get, my focus shifts from training harder to training smarter. The muscles may be willing but the connective tissue isn’t always so obliging. Like they say, Father Time is undefeated but that doesn’t mean you can’t rage against the dying of this light (8/14)
I travel a lot for business but I always try to find time to sneak in a gym visit. a swim. an extended walk through a city or a hike up local hills. All of it ‘counts’ and where there’s a will there’s a way. Helps shake off jetlag, too (9/14)
So many people never got into fitness or put it off so long because they were intimidated by people who’d been doing it forever and who seemed so much more capable. But everyone starts somewhere and there’s never a bad time to start (10/14)
The trick is to find something you enjoy doing, something you can see yourself doing regularly, something you’ll look forward to rather than dread. Try everything, then prioritize the things you enjoy and shitcan the things you don’t (11/14)
Some single-discipline purists *cough* crossfit *cough* can be dismissive towards other types of exercise, but you just have to ignore them. There are ‘the rules’ and then there are ‘the rules that work for you’. Each of us is unique and all fitness roads lead to Rome (12/14)
The benefits of vigorous activity are legion. It releases endorphins, lowers the risk of dementia, boosts your energy levels and improves your overall outlook. Other challenges just look easier after pushing yourself to or near your physical limits (13/14)
https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/about-dementia/managing-the-risk-of-dementia/reduce-your-risk-of-dementia/physical-activity
I encourage everyone to work up a good sweat whenever and wherever you can. In fact, when I finally die, if my pallbearers want to pause halfway to the hearse and do a few squats with me as ‘dead weight,’ I promise not to say anything (14/14)

Higher cardiorespiratory fitness levels linked to dramatically lower mortality and disease risks, study finds
A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, aggregating over 20.9 million observations, shows cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) as a consistent predictor of reduced morbidity and mortality across various health outcomes in adults.

The BTC blockchain’s recent spike in fees is more proof that the network will never serve as the peer-to-peer electronic cash described in Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin white paper (1/13)
On August 22, the cost of doing a single BTC transaction abruptly surged from 74¢ to $7.68 (+938%) due to constrained network bandwidth. That’s a far sight better than the fee spikes in June ($83) and April ($128) but it’s still no way to run a blockchain (2/13)
https://ycharts.com/indicators/bitcoin_average_transaction_fee
While the spike was temporary, some individual horror stories quickly emerged, including one user who paid nearly US$32,000 in fees to consolidate some UTXO’s totaling a little over ½ of one BTC (at the time worth around $33,000) (3/13)
https://x.com/mononautical/status/1826614765395099873?t=C77xwiYSnEkjByzWlYqYAw&s=19
Blame for this latest fee hike was directed at a new BTC ‘staking’ outfit preying on the desperation of BTC hodlers hoping to make money off their digital pet rocks, which abruptly stop ‘mooning’ every time the ‘market fakers’ switch off their wash trading machines (4/13)
This debacle only emphasizes BTC’s complete lack of utility, how far BTC has strayed from Satoshi’s plan for a network of peer-to-peer cost-effective microtransactions, and why people who still refer to BTC as ‘Bitcoin’ need to give their head a shake (5/13)
BTC is permanently mired at a dismal seven transactions per second (TPS), so even on its good days its fees are close to a dollar (and are usually much higher). That categorically eliminates any possibility that BTC will ever handle microtransactions (6/13)
BTC’s ‘solution’ is to offload small transactions onto Layer 2’s like Lightning, but this is a proprietary network with its own hangups, including a notorious inability to complete transactions on the first attempt (7/13)
https://www.truthcoin.info/blog/ln-blackpill/
Europol has labeled Lightning “an obstacle for criminal investigations,” further tarnishing the name of ‘blockchain’ in the eyes of law enforcement agencies, legislators and the general public (8/13)
https://t.me/CalvinAyre/912
If blockchain is ever going to become a positive fixture in the public consciousness, it has to demonstrate cost-effective utility—not simply a vehicle for financial speculation—and a willingness to work with regulators, not against them (9/13)
The key requirement for enterprise blockchains looking to offer utility is the ability to scale—and keep on scaling, no resting on laurels—to meet the requirements of projects and entities that measure success in global terms (10/13)

Listen, if you want to gamble tokens on ‘crypto casino’ exchanges, be my guest. But know that the game is rigged against you, so only bet what you’re prepared to lose. Because you’ll almost certainly lose in the long run (11/13)
I have grander ambitions. I want to change the world for the better by marrying AI, blockchain and IPv6 to create Metanet, an economically integrated system that enables cost-effective, instant micropayments and restores the internet’s original peer-to-peer design (12/13)

https://ycharts.com/indicators/bitcoin_average_transaction_fee

https://ycharts.com/indicators/bitcoin_average_transaction_fee

I recently read Unsupervised: Navigating and Influencing a World Controlled by Powerful New Technologies by Daniel Doll-Steinberg and Stuart Leaf. A good read on how ‘frontier technologies’ are integrating with each other and the resulting impact on society (1/12)
https://www.amazon.com/Unsupervised-Navigating-Influencing-Controlled-Technologies/dp/1394209908
The frontier tech discussion includes artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, blockchain, decentralization, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), as well as the phenomenon of permanent connectivity (2/12)
Doll-Steinberg is no ‘doomer’ but he notes the concentration of power among a few individuals/entities and the lack of proper supervision of these technologies, which will have seriously disruptive impact and pose risks of unintended and irreversible consequences (3/12)
The immense costs of developing these technologies will put pressure on companies to show a return on investment and could lead to undue risks being taken in a bid to gain a competitive edge over rivals (4/12)
These new technologies are increasingly accessible by individuals, which could lead to exciting breakthroughs in any number of fields. But the potential for the ill-advised use of these powerful tools requires new thinking on oversight (5/12)
While I enjoyed the book and agree with many of the points it makes regarding the need for regulation, I disagree with the authors’ position that blockchain and tokenization are more transient technologies than AI, quantum computing, AR/VR etc. (6/12)
For one thing, the immutability of information recorded on the blockchain is the perfect antidote to the vulnerability of centralized data storage. It ensures a permanent, incorruptible record that no bad actor can alter for illicit purposes (7/12)
Enterprise blockchain is a foundational technology, providing the essential structure for secure, reliable and transparent micropayments, eliminating the need for intermediaries while preserving trust and integrity (8/12)
Enterprise blockchain is also enabling technology, allowing the execution of micropayments at scale, ensuring the viability of applications that require small, frequent transactions—everything from small peer-to-peer payments to microtransactions in digital content (9/12)
https://www.globalbankingandfinance.com/aerospike-powers-bsv-blockchains-teranode-to-achieve-100-billion-transactions-per-day/
Enterprise blockchain is also teaming up with AI and IPv6 to provide the foundations of Metanet, the cost-effective micropayment system that will restore the internet’s original design as a true peer-to-peer network (10/12)
https://ayre.group/news/articles-by-calvin/metanet-the-better-more-inclusive-and-dynamic-internet/
Doll-Steinberg believes education is key to ensuring that authorities are in a position to craft tough but fair regulations, while individuals will need to keep abreast of where frontier technologies will have the greatest impact and plan accordingly (11/12)
But as the book’s thoughts on blockchain indicate, education is also needed to ensure everyone understands that the not all blockchains are created equal, and that the impact of unboundedly scalable enterprise blockchain technology is here to stay (12/12)

Aerospike Powers BSV Blockchain’s Teranode to Achieve 100 Billion Transactions Per Day
Aerospike, Inc. (“Aerospike”) today announced that the BSV Blockchain trials of Aerospike, which underpins its groundbreaking Teranode blockchain transaction platform, has achieved sustained throughput of over three million transactions per second (TPS),…
Recientemente leí Unsupervised: Navigating and Influencing a World Controlled by Powerful New Technologies de Daniel Doll-Steinberg y Stuart Leaf.
https://www.amazon.com/Unsupervised-Navigating-Influencing-Controlled-Technologies/dp/1394209908
https://www.globalbankingandfinance.com/aerospike-powers-bsv-blockchains-teranode-to-achieve-100-billion-transactions-per-day/
https://ayre.group/news/articles-by-calvin/metanet-the-better-more-inclusive-and-dynamic-internet/

Stop me if you’ve heard this one, but ‘crypto bros’ are psychos and women find them unattractive (1/18)
Someone sent me a study on ‘The political, psychological and social correlates of cryptocurrency ownership’ – a poll of 2,001 U.S. adults in spring 2022 focused on the associations between crypto ownership and political, psychological and social characteristics (2/18)
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0305178
The participants who own/have owned digital assets were more likely to be male, argumentative and reliant on alternative/fringe social media as their primary news source (3/18)
While these individuals showed a diversity of political allegiances/identities, they shared a belief in conspiracy theories, a victimhood mindset and ‘dark’ personality characteristics (narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, sadism, paranoia, need for chaos, etc) (4/18)
Crypto owners were more open to certain forms of civic engagement, but they also showed a higher willingness to escalate conflict when disagreeing with others and to take part in political violence (5/18)
None of this will be news to anyone who spends a lot of time on ‘crypto twitter,’ where crypto bros freely lob insults and acronyms like HFSP (have fun staying poor) and NGMI (not gonna make it) at those who dare criticize pro-crypto dogma (6/18)
This poses a chicken-and-egg conundrum: does crypto turn people into jerks, or are jerks naturally drawn to crypto? (7/18)
True to form, crypto bros attacked those sharing this info online, but it’s hardly a one-off. Not long after that study was released, a female-focused survey found crypto ranked high on what women considered men’s ‘least attractive’ activities (8/18)
https://datepsychology.com/the-most-and-least-attractive-male-hobbies/
Crypto ranked 8th in ‘least attractive hobbies to women,’ behind comic books, cosplay and alcohol, but ahead of marijuana, porn and gambling. Crypto was less attractive than ‘arguing online’ but more attractive than ‘debating’ (not sure crypto bros see a distinction) (9/18)
Crunching the numbers slightly differently, crypto ranked SECOND-HIGHEST on the ‘unattractiveness of male nerd hobbies.’ The only more repulsive male nerd hobby was collecting Funko figurines (I had to google that), which says a lot (10/18)
With nearly 77% of women in the survey hinting that they’d find a way to extricate themselves from a crypto conversation, we suggest ‘crypto twitter’ learn a new acronym: HFJO. (You figure it out) (11/18)
If you don’t believe this survey, consider the recent BTC Nashville conference, at which men reportedly outnumbered women both on and offstage by a factor of 10. (I just googled this and yes, there’s a Crypto Sausage Party token) (12/18)
https://www.theverge.com/24211345/bitcoin-conference-2024-nashville-trump-maga-crypto
As for why women hate crypto bros, I like to think it’s because women are just more practical than men and there’s nothing less practical than utility-free ‘crypto.’ It solves nobody’s problems and infantilizes the men who go too far down this rabbit hole (13/18)
No movement is a monolith and not everyone who owns a digital asset is a raging dickhead. But when token holders wonder why blockchain adoption is taking so long, they should consider how they’re coming across to those outside their own bubbles (14/18)
Thankfully, there’s a big difference between ‘crypto’ and utility-focused enterprise blockchain technology. The latter is open to all interested in building better digital tools that benefit humanity and who don’t view token price as the be-all and end-all (15/18)
