Filthy scum @realDonaldTrump just defied a Federal Court Order to cease and desist mowing down trees in East Potomac Park, a piece of land owned by the American people

After telling the judge to go to hell, Trump directed the Park Service to destroy 400 trees

Here’s what the issue was really about in the credit for this is, “Save East Potomac“ a grass roots DMV group to stop the bastardization of public land in and around DC

“The supposed plan for East Potomac Park is an absolute tragedy for so many that call our nation’s capital home.

For 130 years, East Potomac has served every kind of American. Golfers, cyclists, runners, birdwatchers, walkers, picnickers, anyone who just wants to see the cherry blossoms. This plan is a betrayal of the public, of the National Park Service, and of the very act that established this land to be “forever held and used as a park for the recreation and pleasure of the people.”

Ask yourself who a public muni golf course is actually meant to serve. East Potomac was built in direct response to the elitism of golf, a course anyone could walk onto and play, at a time when golf in America belonged almost entirely to the wealthy. Now the government wants to turn it back into exactly that. The very thing this course was built to stand against.

This golf escapade is compounded by the fact that golf is about to become the only purpose of this entire peninsula. Over 130 years, East Potomac expanded, not narrowed, who and what it served. The road came. The playground came. The mini golf course came. The cherry blossoms were planted and became part of the city’s identity. All of it added, piece by piece, to widen who this park belonged to. Now it’s all being wiped out in one fell swoop, for a single use, by a single man.

Donald Trump already owns 16 golf courses. He doesn’t need a 17th. Especially not one carved out of 130 years of public land to chase his own personal trophy.

The heart of this issue really is not about golf. It is about who owns our public lands in America. The National Park Service’s mandate is "...to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." Not for the enjoyment of one man’s ego. For future generations.

Public land doesn’t become private property just because the person in office wants it to be. That’s the whole point of calling it public.”

Donald, your lawyers told a federal court that the golf course redesign was still conceptual. Then you announced the design, a construction schedule, and declared that nobody’s approval was necessary.

Meanwhile, your administration cut down hundreds of trees over a holiday weekend despite the court’s instructions about providing advance notice.

The judge questioned your government’s conduct, so your Justice Department tried to have her removed. She rejected that motion.

And now you’re calling her a “crazed lunatic” because she insists the government follow the law?

That’s adorable.

Here’s something you apparently missed in your extensive experience with golf courses: Public land isn’t your personal country club, and the Constitution doesn’t contain a presidential mulligan.

Federal agencies have legal obligations. Courts have the authority to review whether those obligations are being met. And judges don’t lose that authority because the President throws a tantrum.

You can call the renovation “World Class” until you’re blue in the face. It doesn’t make your legal obligations disappear.

Donald, the rule of law doesn’t stop at the eighteenth hole.

And being President doesn’t entitle you to move the goalposts, ignore the referee, and declare yourself the winner.

That’s not how golf works. It’s certainly not how a constitutional republic works.

Trump is the DESTROYER-in-Chief.

During his 2nd, disastrous term, Washington DC is now full of the physical signs of his destructive nature :
The White House is a building site, following his destruction of the East Wing without the necessary approvals;
The Reflecting Pool is now partially drained and is frankly a mess;
The Kennedy Center is now covered with tarps to hide where Trump’s name had to be removed (it had NO business being added in the first place);
The East Potomac Golf Course is now the latest DC landmark to be chosen as a Trump vanity project, and 500 trees have been cut down WITHOUT PERMISSION!

And all the while, Trump - the most inept, corrupt president in U.S. history - is doing his best to destroy democracy in the US (stifling free press, ignoring the law) while starting a new, illegal on Iran, removing healthcare from millions of Americans, increasing the price of gas & food (while enriching himself), cosying up to Putin while turning on longstanding allies who now no longer trust him…

It will take a long time to undo the damage inflicted not only on the U.S. but throughout the world because a mentally-unhinged man was reinstalled.
