👉🏻 The blocking of TikTok in New Caledonia marks a first in France and Europe, raising concerns about state authority in a rule of law. TikTok has been inaccessible for over a week due to a government decision, accusing the platform of contributing to public disorder.

🔎 On May 23, the Council of State rejected a suspension request from several public liberties associations, including the Ligue des droits de l’homme and La Quadrature du Net. This legal victory for the government leaves several fundamental questions unresolved.

🇫🇷🤝🇮🇹 Le Pen to Meloni: Let’s team up and form EU Parliament’s No. 2 group

On the eve of next week’s EU election, French far-right leader Marine Le Pen is inviting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to team up and form a right-wing super-grouping that would be the second-biggest party bloc in the European Parliament.

The far right is projected to perform well in the June 6-9 election but there are still intense doubts about which parties would be able to work together as cross-border political groups — because many of the national parties are sharply divided — especially over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The latest projections suggest 68 seats for ID and 71 for ECR, making 139 lawmakers in the 720-seat chamber. AfD is on course for 17 seats and the unaffiliated Hungarian Fidesz party currently has 12 MEPs. All together, something over 165 seats would seem to be in play for the (currently disunited) far right.

🇫🇷🚓🇷🇺 Major police crackdown on radicalized Chechen across France

👉🏻 A joint operation of the Metz police, the Raid, the BRI and the judiciary police went down today to arrest radicalized, watch-listed members of the Chechen community.

🔎 A dozen people were arrested, one of whom was linked to the murder of Samuel Paty, a French teacher who had been beheaded by a Chechen jihadist in 2020.

🇷🇺 The Chechen community is regularly targeted for its links with radicalized circles. This is not the first time this type of intervention has taken place in France.
