Five EU countries—Denmark, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Greece—plan to establish deportation centres outside the EU by 2027, following a Copenhagen meeting.

They aim to create “return hubs” for rejected asylum seekers, with Uganda and Rwanda as potential host countries. The hubs, funded by the five countries, are intended to offer migrants a “new chance” rather than serve as detention camps, according to experts and authorities in charge of designing the project.

The initiative seeks to reduce illegal migration to the EU, with ongoing discussions with potential partners outside its territory. The project will align with EU law and international obligations, involving organisations like UNHCR.

Despite interest from many EU countries, concerns about human rights and legal compatibility persist, with past attempts to transfer migrants proving challenging and costly, with opposition from parties in favour of the acceptance of refugees into their territories.

🇺🇸🇺🇦🇷🇺⚡️ — A complete ceasefire for four days is being implemented, from 00:00 on September 5th to 23:59 on September 8th, according to pro-Ukrainian channels.

If this does happen, it is clearly linked to the arrival of important guests from the United States in both Moscow and Kiev.

Overall, there are neither major problems nor significant joys associated with this – such short-term ceasefires lasting a few days have happened many times before, but they have never had a serious impact.
