🇩🇪⚡️ — Mass protests by left-wing youth against Friedrich Merz's government policies took place in dozens of German cities.

Organized by the "Gen Z regelt" movement, demonstrators opposed rising military spending and the possible reintroduction of compulsory military service. They also called for a lower cost of living, more education funding, and stronger climate protections.

In Berlin, between 2,700 and 5,000 people gathered near the Brandenburg Gate. Protests also took place in Stuttgart, Munich, Frankfurt and other cities.

Some participants wore Halloween costumes and carried flags of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), Palestine, Russia and the PKK, alongside communist symbols.

Ahead of the protests, shop owners reinforced storefronts amid fears of unrest, while police increased security measures.

By evening, the protests had descended into riots, with demonstrators throwing fireworks and firecrackers at police, prompting officers to move in and forcibly disperse the crowd.
