🇺🇸The 101st Airborne Division is a historical unit of the US Army, founded in 1942 in the middle of World War II. The baptism of fire occurred the night before the Normandy landing (Operation Overlord) on 6 June 1944. The division subsequently participated in the catastrophic Market Garden operation, the battle of Bastogne and the Siegfried Line offensive. The 101st participated during the 20th century in the Korean war, the Vietnam War, the first and second Gulf wars and the invasion of Afghanistan. The division's headquarters are located at Fort Campbell in the state of Kentucky. The 101st is also called the Screaming Eagle, entering the collective imagination through the cinema. It will be deployed in Jordan for the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
