🔹Japanese police said Sunday that a 20-year-old US Marine stationed at Futenma Air Station was arrested over the killing of a 39-year-old Japanese woman at a hotel in Naha, the capital of Okinawa. The woman was attacked at the hotel early Saturday, in the latest criminal case involving US forces on the island.

🔹Around 50,000 US troops are stationed in Japan, nearly half of them in Okinawa. The large US military presence has long been met with protests by island residents over crimes linked to the bases, while criminal cases involving US personnel have strained relations between Japan’s central government and the Okinawa prefectural government.
