For a doctor working in the red zone with more than 450 covid-19 positive patients, its highly insulting and heartbreaking for me when i hear people claiming ‘corona is just a hoax’ ‘govt is lying’ ‘its just a flu’
NO, NO AND ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Imagine staying in a ward full of corona patients with a 3 layered PPE in this heat while fasting. You cant go to the washroom because you are completely sealed. you cant scratch your face. It’s ridiculously hot and you are sweating, you cant wipe it off so it goes in your eyes and it burns but you cant rub that either because of the goggles. Its ramadan and you are fasting but you are wearing an N95 which suffocates you and you cant do anything about it. The tight goggles cut into your skin, the band that holds the mask hurts your face but you cant touch anything. And the entire time that we are inside, we have to be extra cautious that we are not exposed because we all have family at home, our parents are old they have co-morbids. We are not only putting ourselves at risk, we are also risking our families. Had this been fake, we wouldn’t have tortured ourselves so much.
To everyone saying we are paid for it, trust me money is not worth it. Nothing in this world is worth risking our families. But we are still doing it. WHY? Because we took an oath, to serve people to take care of the sick people. Its our duty and its our passion.
And everyone who is condemning the doctors for asking for PPE, would you send your soldiers into a battle without weapons? Obviously not. Thats suicide.
All we request in return is for you to help us help you. Stop lying to your doctors, stop hiding your symptoms, your travel history, be responsible, follow the government’s orders, stay at home, practice social distancing. We understand its not easy, but you are helping us save lives.
This disease is serious. Its not a joke. It literally eats up your lungs. I saw a healthy 30-something female deteriorate within 2 days, her lungs were gone. In 2 days only.
Its better to be safe than sorry. Developed countries like US and Spain and Italy are struggling we can’t afford that, we dont have the resources, we dont have medical facilities, hospitals to combat a widespread full blown pandemic. And honestly if we start loosing doctors its going to get really bleak.
On behalf of the entire medical community, i plead you all to stay home, if you dont go to the parlour or if you dont get new dresses for eid, its okay. You are healthy you are safe, thats what matters.
Please bump this post and feel free to share it so it reaches more people, especially those who are questioning the credibility of this disease. Pass on the message, educate your friends and family. We need a united front against this disease.
