This Ansarallah offensive cannot be compared to what happened in Syria, because the PLC force did put up a fight—for several weeks, in fact.

The Mokha front was slightly different, it was a highly coordinated surprise offensive that caught the PLC off guard and forced them into successive retreats without much fighting.

But Taizz is different. The heights of Taizz Governorate were extremely well defended, entrenched, with plenty of troops and armor, and they put up quite a lot of resistance.

This is to the credit of Ansarallah, whom despite these harsh conditions managed to break through the enemy lines due to excellent planning and superior adaptability (as well as morale).

At MES we haven’t seen any confirmation so far that Al-Birin has been captured, although it is possible.

It has probably been entered but not yet consolidated.

And also, encircling Taizz does not necessarily mean capturing Taizz imminently or even in the short term.

Of course, that’s the goal, but it all depends on whether those remaining in the city decide to put up a fight.

The Kurdish Sheikh Maqsoud district of Aleppo was encircled for years, first by the SAA then by Jolani, before it eventually surrendered.

Urban combat is hell.
