π MONEY 101: Compound Interest, the Slow Snowball
Compounding means your returns start earning returns too. It's simple, but it only works if you give it time π
β³ 1. Time beats timing
$100 a month at an average 7% a year grows to roughly $17,000 in 10 years, but about $120,000 in 30. Starting early matters more than starting big.
π 2. The Rule of 72
Divide 72 by the yearly rate to estimate how long money takes to double. At 6%, about 12 years. At 2%, about 36.
π 3. Reinvest, don't withdraw
Pulling out gains or dividends breaks the snowball. Let them roll back in.
πΈ 4. It works against you too
Fees and debt compound as well. A 1% yearly fee or a 25% credit card balance can quietly eat years of growth.
π© 5. Real returns vary
7% is a long-run example, not a promise. Markets swing, and any "guaranteed" high rate is a red flag.
