Time to check Face Recognition settings on Facebook
Facebook announced the global roll out of the Face Recognition setting for new users and existing users who had access to the tag suggestions feature today.
The company launched a feature called tag suggestions years ago that was enabled for a subset of Facebook users only. The feature determined whether face recognition technology was used by Facebook to identify users on uploaded photos. The feature limited suggestions to friends of the user who uploaded the feature. In other words: it only provided identification on the photo if it identified a contact of the user; strangers were not suggested by the tool.

New Facebook User Data Leak Is Five Times Larger Than Cambridge Analytica Leak
Security researcher Sanyam Jain was able to uncover an unprotected server that stored databases containing 419 million phone numbers belonging to Facebook users, or about five times more than what was exposed to Cambridge Analytica. Among the affected users there are 133 million people from the United States and 18 million from the UK. In total, this new data leak seems to affect five times more people than the Cambridge Analytica leak did (87 million people affected).

Facebook's Dating Service is Full of Red Flags
If you open Facebook’s mobile app today, it will likely suggest that you try the company’s new Dating service, which just launched in the U.S. after a rollout in 19 other countries last year. But with the company’s track record of mishandling user data, and its business model of monetizing our sensitive information to power third-party targeted advertising, potential users should view Facebook’s desire to peek into our bedrooms as a huge red flag.

Instagram fixed after researcher finds way to link account info to PII
Facebook has repaired a vulnerability in its Instagram social media platform, after a researcher found that it could be exploited to link users’ phone numbers to their account numbers, usernames and actual names.
With the help a brute-force algorithm and a network of bots, malicious actors could have leveraged the flaw to bypass data security protections and gain access to information that they could have used to build a searchable database of users for future attack campaigns, according to Forbes reporter Zak Doffman in an article published earlier today.

WhatsApp 'Delete for Everyone' Doesn't Delete Media Files Sent to iPhone Users
Mistakenly sent a picture to someone via WhatsApp that you shouldn't have?
Well, we've all been there, but what's more unfortunate is that the 'Delete for Everyone' feature WhatsApp introduced two years ago contains an unpatched privacy bug, leaving its users with false sense of privacy.
WhatsApp and its rival Telegram messenger offer "Delete for Everyone," a potentially life-saving feature on which millions of people today rely to escape the awkwardness of mistakenly sending messages / pictures / videos to the wrong person.

Watching You Watch: The Tracking Ecosystem of Over-the-Top TV Streaming Devices
By 2020 one third of US households are estimated to “cut the cord”, i.e., discontinue their multichannel TV subscriptions and switch to internet-connected streaming services. Over-the-Top (“OTT”) streaming devices such as Roku and Amazon Fire TV, which currently sell between for $30 to $100, are cheap alternatives to smart TVs for cord-cutters. Instead of charging more for the hardware or the membership, Roku and Amazon Fire TV monetize their platforms through advertisements, which rely on tracking users’ viewing habits.

Facebook has quietly revealed another privacy breach involving approximately 100 developers. On Tuesday, Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, Facebook’s Director of Platform Partnerships said in a blog post that the names and profile pictures of users connected to Groups and the system’s API were accessible.
Before April 2018, group administrators could authorize an app for a group they managed, giving the application developer access to this information.
