As an NPT party, #Iran retains the legal right under Article IV to develop peaceful nuclear energy and technology, provided it complies with non-proliferation obligations. Iran also asserts its sovereign right, as a non-nuclear-weapon state, to maintain conventional ballistic missiles for national defense, capabilities not inherently prohibited under the NPT. A religious fatwa issued by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dating back to the mid-1990s/early 2000s declared the production, stockpiling, and use of nuclear weapons (and #WMD) forbidden under Islamic law.
Yet Western powers, led by the US, continue to demonize Iran and exert intense pressure on Tehran, through sanctions, diplomatic isolation, and, more recently last year, #US military strikes on its nuclear facilities.
Israel gets away with genocide and undeclared nuclear monopoly in the Middle East, but hey, let's frame Iran as a 'threat to regional stability and an existential threat to Israel'. The West’s hypocrisy and double standards couldn't be more glaring.
