The Himalayan Disaster in Nepal
Nepalโs flash flood in the Langtang Himalayan region bordering China has resulted in massive destruction and devastation on the banks of the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. The latest figures donโt tell the real story. Nepalese newspapers and online portals have now revealed that the deaths might be in the thousands, though official figures are nearing 1,500 dead and over 6,000 missing. UNICEF estimates that over 84,000 people, including 32,000 children, have been affected by this devastation. Over a dozen hydropower projects were swept away, along with several important markets in Rasuwa and Trishuli Bazaar. Over 20 schools were swept away, affecting 14,000 students.
