🌱 Ramadan is a banquet.

Saying that the month of Ramadan is a banquet [Ḍīyāfat] is perhaps the most important description of Ramadan. If we want to explain the nature of Ramadan, we should start with this description, which is the most fundamental description of this dear month. Ramadan means a banquet; it is the month of God’s banquet. In Ramadan, we are God’s guests and He is our Host.

Although we were God’s guests from the beginning of creation and have always benefited from His blessings, in the month of Ramadan we are His guests even more than before. What is the message for us behind this extra, special way of being His guests? What subtle meaning is this term supposed to convey to us about the month of Ramadan?

🌱 Why the term “banquet” for the month of Ramadan

Describing Ramadan as being a banquet is not just some term that men of letters and mystics chose to their own liking. Rather, it is the term the dear Holy Prophet (s), who is aware of all the realities in the world, used when talking about the month of Ramadan.

The Prophet (s) used this term in referring to Ramadan in the beginning sentences of the “Sha’bāniyah Sermon,” where he said, “You have been invited to God’s banquet in this month.” Therefore, we should pay attention to the particularities of this term and description. We should use the opportunity this metaphor has given us to gain the utmost understanding about the month of Ramadan.

🔲 An uncontrolled mind is a mind that will become ill.
🔲 Why do we become corrupted if we let go of ourselves? Don’t we have a divine, innate nature?

👉🏼 #ControllingMyMind (9)

The Commander of the Faithful, Ali (as), said, “Force yourself to do good deeds and acquire virtues, otherwise vices exist naturally within you and (and you will naturally go toward them).” [Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 2477] So if you don’t go toward good deeds and feelings, you will both feel bad and do bad.

Why do we become corrupted if we let go of ourselves? Don’t we have a divine, innate nature? Are we naturally bad? No, the Qur’an says, “…the upright creation upon which He originated people.” [Qur’an, 30:30]

On the one hand, we are originally good, but if we let go of ourselves, we will become corrupted. Why? It is like food. No matter how good and useful a food is, if you don’t put it in the refrigerator, it will spoil due to microbes. This danger exists for people too. The microbe that was created before human beings and that is their enemy is “Satan.”

Apart from Satan (the external enemy), human beings’ internal mechanism is such that if he is not trained, he will become ruined. Human beings love to grow. Because of this interest, they rush to grow and may destroy everything unless they have been taught patience. It is like nuclear energy. If it isn’t controlled, it can ruin everything.

If a person does not practice "controlling his mind,” his mind will automatically become ill. Our mind has some features, which we must control and use properly. One of these features is “becoming #worried and fearing." It is not bad to fear a danger or harm, but if you leave that fear unrestricted, it will gradually cause you to become cowardly and weak.

Another feature is "#regret." If a person does not have this sense of blaming himself, he will never repent. But if he does not restrain this feature, (like unrestrained nuclear energy) it will shatter his mind and soul. One shouldn’t blame himself in just any way, even for his sins! Some people blame themselves so severely for their sins that they lose all hope. This is wrong too!

🌱 Being Concerned about the Acceptance of Our Deeds

In every deed that a servant does – before, during and after that deed - God wants His servant to show enthusiasm for Him and love Him.

When God sees that His servant sends his worship acts toward Him negligently and is not worried whether his deeds will reach Him and be accepted or not, such deeds are not valuable to Him. Therefore, the benefit that some people receive from the month of Ramadan is only being hungry and thirsty for a month.

The Greatest Sign of God

Before being born, a person loves all good things. Then he forgets everything, and he is born. He is supposed to gradually remember all his forgotten interests when he sees the signs of God. The greatest sign of God that can remind us of the loftiest of our good loves is Imam Ali (as).

📌 20 Reminders for the “Nights of Destiny (Laylatul Qadr)”

1- Feel the resemblance between the “Night of Destiny” and the “Resurrection Day.”
2- Be optimistic and pray for forgiveness, our wishes, and particularly for getting close to Him.
3- Be restless to achieve closeness to God.
4- The faithful should resemble the sinful in showing empty hands to God. The sinful must pray like the faithful with hearts filled with certainty as to God’s Kindness and Generosity.
5- Attract God's Compassion by being kind to others (by forgiving and praying for them).

6- Be generous by praying for others.
7- Help those in need, and be kind to relatives.
8- Show kindness to our parents, pray for our spiritual leaders.
9- Ask for a good livelihood and the destruction of those who bring about poverty.
10- Join the prayer gatherings with other people, at least for a part of the night.

11- Recite supplications, which are appropriate with our mood.
12- Read some of the Qur'an.
13- Reflect and evaluate ourselves.
14- Think about the moment when we leave this life and review our will.
15- Don’t neglect remembering and thinking about Imam Ali (‘a).

16- Continually feel the presence of the living Imam, al-Mahdi (‘aj).
17- Plan for our future and changes to be made in our behaviour.
18- The third “Night of Destiny” is the night to pray for the coming of Imam Mahdi (‘aj).
19- Pray for a good destiny and martyrdom in the way of God (if one wants).
20- Make a pilgrimage to Imam Husayn’s (‘a) shrine, or send your greetings to him from far. Pray for the martyrs.

I ask for your prayers,
Alireza Panahian

🌱A Banquet by Force

The God Who always waited for us to go toward Him ourselves, does not wait for His servants’ decision and action in this month. By making Ramadan a period that everyone must enter, it is as if He has come toward His servants Himself, grabs everyone’s hand and takes them toward His mercy.

The Start of the New Year

The twenty-third of the holy month of Ramadan is the true start of the New Year for everyone. This is because on the night before the twenty-third of the holy month of Ramadan, each person’s sustenance and destiny are determined and many people are forgiven. So if one wishes to plan for one year for him/herself, it is better to start such a plan on this day.
