In only one case is it good to follow our whims and that is in loving the Household of the Prophet (‘a). The prophet Ibrahim (‘a) requested from God, “Make the hearts of people yearn towards my children.” (Qur’an, 14:37)
A person says, “I have a whim to go to Karbala. I desire it. I yearn to visit Husayn’s (‘a) shrine.” Whenever your heart yearns to make a pilgrimage, know that this is an inspiration. In appearances, it is a whim, but there are much deeper messages behind it.
