ββπ¬π§ London Is the World's Airbnb Capital
10 years ago, in early August 2008, the website Airbedandbreakfast.com went online, marking the birth of #Airbnb. Back then the three founders, Brian Cheky, Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk wanted to help short-term travelers find affordable accommodation and provide renters with an opportunity to make an extra buck by renting out spare rooms or even just the namesake airbed on the floor.
Now, it's about 10 years later and their little venture is valued at nearly $30 billion.

More people are working for ride-sharing and delivery companies but on average theyβre making less.
On average, drivers who transport people (#Uber or #Lyft) or things (#UberEats or #Postmates) through an app made 53 percent less in 2017 than they did in 2013, according to a new study by the JPMorgan Chase Institute.
The average monthly payments to those who worked for a transportation app in a given month declined to $783 from $1,469. Meanwhile, people working for leasing apps β #Airbnb, Turo, Parklee and other apps that let you rent assets like your home, car or parking space β saw their incomes from those platforms rise 69 percent to $1,736 on average.

ββπ American consumers spent more on Airbnb than on Hilton last year
And that means Airbnb now owns about 20 percent of the entire US consumer lodging market!
#Airbnb has long felt like an existential threat to hotel companies. New data shows that it actually is one.
US consumers spent more money on Airbnb last year than than they did on Hilton and its subsidiary brands like DoubleTree and Embassy Suites, according to new data from Second Measure, a company that analyzes billions of dollars in anonymized debit and credit card purchases. Their Airbnb spending is even catching up to Marriott, the worldβs largest hotel company, which added to its revenue by acquiring Starwood hotels in 2016.
The data shows roughly 30 percent growth last year in US consumer spending on Airbnb, which is expected to go public next year and is currently valued at about $38 billion company.
Much of that growth, according to Second Measure, is coming from travelers who live in the Central US. Currently about a third of Airbnbβs US customers are from populous coastal states California, New York and Florida. Thatβs a departure from 2012 when people from those states made up half its customers.
