πŸ“‰ Facebook losing the battle for Customer Satisfaction

Pinterest keeps its top place for another year with 80% customer satisfaction rate in 2019, with no changes from 2018.

Snapchat's customer satisfaction rate was measured for the first time (by ASCI) in 2019 at 71%, just below the #SocialMedia average at 72%.

After the #CambridgeAnalytica scandal, it comes as no surprise that #Facebook is still struggling to revive its plummeting reputation, scoring the worst out of all platforms. They were also accused of dispersing disinformation, censoring political speeches and allowing foreign interference in the US 2016 election and Brexit.

β€‹β€‹πŸ“Š Time Spent on Social Media

On average global internet users spent 2 hours and 23 minutes on social media per day, though trends differed widely by country. In around half of the markets that Global Web Index surveyed, #SocialMedia use had shrunk or plateaued in Q1 2019 when compared with 2018 figures.

Emerging markets continue to spend the most time on social networks during a typical day. This could be driven by the younger demographics of these markets, with the 16 to 24-year-old segment driving growth globally. The Philippines spent the most time connected to social networks, devoting just over four hours a day to the digital sphere. Nigeria, Mexico, and Turkey all typically spent over three hours a day on social media sites.

Some of the more developed markets show signs of plateau which, in part, could be driven by the older demographics of these countries. During a typical day in Japan, people spend less than an hour staying connected digitally. Consequently, Japan also has one of the lowest birth rates in the world. Germany posts only slightly higher numbers, with users going on social media for just over an hour every day, while the UK and the US both spent closer to two hours per day engaging with social media.

As digital habits evolve, marketers and advertisers need to stay abreast of industry and demographic trends as the social media markets mature and become saturated in certain regions and countries.

⌚️ What Types of Media Take Up Most of Your Time?

The time people spend with print newspapers and magazines has dwindled, with media #attention being dominated by the internet in 2019. That trend will only increase over the next two years, according to Zenith Media.
Consumers have limited time and attention, pushing print to the side as they move onto digital channels. The daily time each consumer worldwide will spend on the #internet this year is forecasted to hit 170 minutes daily, roughly 3 hours a day. By 2021, consumers are estimated to spend 192 minutes per day on the internet.

🎧 About 1 in 4 Consumers Say They’ve Made A Purchase After Hearing A Podcast Ad

The US population has embraced podcasts, with the majority of Americans over the age of 12 years listening to them on a weekly basis. And, per a survey by Adobe, more than half (52%) of these #podcast enthusiasts are listening to #podcasts while commuting to work or while they are working.

Among the nearly three-quarters (72%) of respondents who report having heard an ad while listening to a podcast, 1 in 3 say the ads are more engaging than on other formats and 2 in 5 say they are less intrusive. This could be due to the type of ads heard on podcasts, as the majority of ads are still host-read, which aids in maintaining continuity within the podcast.

β€‹β€‹πŸ§  Mental Health: The Impact of Social Media on Young People

Is the end of the "like" coming? According to TechCrunch, based on the findings of researcher Jane Manchun Wong, #Facebook is currently carrying out tests to reveal only a limited number of likes on a post. The social networking giant is currently conducting the same type of experiment in seven countries on its Instagram app.

What is the reason for this? To reduce the feeling of permanent competition and social pressure. As recent research has shown, this decision could be particularly beneficial for the #MentalHealth of young people. Based on the results of a survey of 1,479 people aged 14 to 24 years by the UK's Royal Society for Public Health, the top 5 social networks have been ranked according to their impact on mental health.

It emerges that #Instagram is the social media platform with the most negative effect on the psychological state of young people. On the other side, #YouTube is considered to be the most positive network in this area and the only one in the research considered to have a 'net positive' influence. To establish this ranking, 14 factors were taken into account such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, self-image, harassment, and the opportunity to express oneself.

πŸ“Š Facebook Inc. Dominates the Social Media Landscape

When people think of #Facebook as a company, they mostly think of it synonymously with Facebook the social network. However, Facebook Inc. is much more than that, as today’s chart nicely illustrates. With #WhatsApp, #Instagram and of course the namesake Facebook and #FacebookMessenger, the company owns four of the world’s largest social media / messaging services.

Facebook alone is used by more than 2 billion people per month and both WhatsApp and Messenger also have surpassed the billion user mark, according to company data aggregated by DataReportal. #Tencent, the Chinese company behind #WeChat, Qzone and messenger QQ also boasts more than two billion users in total, but it still doesn’t come close to matching Facebook’s global footprint.

β€‹β€‹πŸ’ƒ U.S. users spend more than $23 million in TikTok since launch

You can’t read tech news for more than a day or two before you come across an article mentioning #TikTok, the newest massive social media network in the world. Its parent company Bytedance acquired musical.ly last year which led to TikTok’s US launch on August 2nd, 2018. Since then, American users have spent $23.1 million on coins and other virtual goods for the TikTok economy.

Since launching in the United States, the market is responsible for 24% of its in-app purchase revenue. This excludes third party app stores found in China πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³.

Looking at current U.S. demographics, we see TikTok reigns supreme in its ability to attract a younger crowd. Almost 50% of its US πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ active users are aged 20 or younger. #Facebook has always skewed older than the newer social apps, but what stands out most is that it shows a slight edge against #Lasso. Facebook created Lasso to be a direct competitor to TikTok, and while it's early, there's room for improvement.
