π Social Media Users Pass 3.5 Billion
The number of people around the world using #SocialMedia grew by more than a quarter of a billion over the past 12 months, to reach the 3.5 billion milestone by July 2019.
More than 46% of the worldβs total population now uses social media, but if we focus on βeligible audiencesβ β people aged 13 and above β the penetration rate increases to 59%, with the latest trends suggesting that it will pass 60% within the next few months.

π» Snapchatβs Audience Jumps
Data published in #Snapchatβs self-serve tools show that the platformβs advertising audience jumped by a massive 19% in the past three months, reaching a total of 369 million users by July 2019. That translates to an increase of almost 60 million users since April, with growth rates consistent across all age groups.
Itβs not just Snapchatβs data that shows the platform is growing, either. According to App Annie, Snapchat saw a surge in downloads with the release of new #AR filters and its new, faster #Android mobile app, over the past three months.

π€ British & American kids would much rather be YouTubers than astronauts!
Last week, we had the 50th Apollo 11 anniversary, which landed Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the surface of the Moon. On the eve of that, LEGO asked The Harris Poll to survey a total of 3,000 children in πΊπΈπ¬π§π¨π³ about their attitudes toward and knowledge of space.
Asked what they would like to be when they grow up, about 3 in 10 American and British children replied that they wanted to be YouTubers or Vloggers. In fact, becoming an astronaut ranked last among five professions! Only in China did children have a clear preference for being an astronaut!

π Facebook Keeps On Growing
Little more than 15 years ago, on February 4, 2004, 19-year old Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, along with some of his classmates, launched a little website called Thefacebook.
Confined to the Harvard campus at first, after changing its name to just "Facebook" in 2005, the social network was opened to the general public in the fall of 2006, marking the start of one of the most remarkable growth stories in corporate history.
Within three years, the social network added 350 million users and in the summer of 2012 it became the first online service of its kind to reach 1 billion monthly active users. Until today, despite being shrouded in controversy over its (mis)handling of user privacy, #Facebook just keeps on growing. In the past quarter alone, Facebook added 39 million monthly active users, bringing its total user base to an astonishing 2.41 billion.

- Use of TV for news is much more likely among the 65+ age group (94%), while the #internet is the most-used platform for news consumption among 16-24s and those from a minority ethnic background.
- Fewer UK adults use BBC TV channels for news compared to last year, while more are using #SocialMedia platforms.
